Most teams dont press us exactly because Ederson is in net. His presence alone is enough to completely counter an entire gameplan. It was the same as having a prime kyle walker and so teams didnt even bother to play balls over the top for their left winger to chase. He is so good at not just beating any press but exploiting it and getting regular assists that the only response is to just not do it at all which gives our already shaky suicidal backline some breathing space.

People dont recognise how vital that has been to our success. The second we dont have Ederson in net, you'll see a return of teams legitimately employing a high press against us and you'll see a return of the regular fuck ups costing us goals that we saw before we had Ederson.

We cannot successfully play Peps current brand of football without Ederson. Now presuming he doesnt persist with something thats no longer viable, some might say a forced change of tactics, might actually benefit us but thats a different conversation.
Utterly intrinsic to our success - spot on.

I’m for this transfer big time but I’m curious if the above video is satire. It’s one of the worst compilation videos I’ve ever seen. Maybe one impressive thing in there

Find this slightly strange, is he being looked at as the new no1 or backup?

Not sure he's good enough for us as a number 1. He's too skinny to be a good goalkeeper so I'd welcome him as a back up option to replace Ortega.

Was never impressed with him in the Premier League. Made so many mistakes. Look good with his feet but he got bullied when he came for crosses. Reminded me of Meslier.

Ignoring the fact that Newcastle haven'y been able to agree a fee all summer
Newcastle cannot put a bid in or anybody else until we relinquish our buy back option officially.

Basically we have dibs until we say we don't or the buy back period expires

Agreed. And the last sentence is everything.
The current way we play IMO has been found out. We aren’t recreating what we’ve done recently next season. We’ve gone from a prime KDB, David Silva, Gundo and Bernardo receiving passes from the back to what we have now. That’s not to say we haven’t got quality, far from it, but it’s not what it was by any way shape or form.

A more direct game plan with teams more confident pressing us may actually benefit us hypothetically and give more space to the likes of Erling, Doku, Phil, Savinho who have been swamped by defenders recently and pretty much nullified.

Im not saying turn into prime Stoke but a change of keeper and a slight tweak in mindset from Pep regarding playing out could actually benefit us. PSG just won a champions league with a keeper who was previously notoriously rubbish with his feet, but he’s bloody good at shot stopping.

Let’s see what happens. I love Ederson and everything he’s done for us but I just think it’s time for a change. Hopefully the club get that change right. Bravo ptsd still strong a decade on so fingers crossed

Trafford is well able to pass the ball

Not sure what you're trying to show me there? I didnt even say he couldn't pass the ball. The point i was making in that quote is not about being able to pass the ball but being able to consistently make the correct pass, at the correct time, completely unflustered.

If a keeper passes to a defender under pressure, who then fucks up or even just causes him to panic slightly and play a poor pass to the next player who then fucks up, in the stats you're presenting to me, the keeper made a flawless pass when the reality is, the pass shoukd have gone elsewhere.

The key difference between ederson and the rest isnt that he's simply more accurate even though he undoubtedly is, it's that he see's the whole field and knows what pass to make, when to make it and also what pass not to make. He doesnt fluster, he wont play the bad pass and rely on the recipient to get themselves out of trouble, he'll find the space and play the pass that is on instead. Nobody else on the planet gets within sight of Edersons ability to do that.

he was younger then but he seems to have stepped up a level.
Possibly, just think he needs to hit the weights and bulk up a bit. He might be a tall lad, but he doesn't look intimidating at all, not like Allison, Donnarumma etc.

Honestly don't care about having a keeper who is good/not good on the ball. I just want a keeper like Oblak who is a safe pair of hands and reliable when called upon. How many times do keepers like Allison save Liverpool or Oblak save Atletico? That's what we need. Give me another David Seaman/Tony Coton above the goalkeepers of today all day long.
