Things to see and do in New York

Summit one was the best viewing tower experience in my opinion

Oh and dollar slices are spot on

Sit in the bleachers and watch a game of baseball in Central Park. We watched Ladder 20 v Precinct 12 (probably) and it was a great afternoon, very funny/competitive. Also, they have black squirrels in CP if you can spot one.

Eh up blues

Me, the missus and our 14 year old lad are off to the Big Apple for 10 days next week.

There’s a few must visit places on our list of things to see and do but I’d interested to hear of any other suggestions from those of ya who’ve been and done it.

Cheers
Me and Mrs H did NY for her 60th, on the Sunday went to the 9/11 memorial museum, the area around there is good to spend a Sunday but Pier 15 is a great place to go for lunch, beer, a bit of shopping and just a chill out.

You won’t be able to do what we did with a 14 year old in tow but we walked back to our hotel near Times Square from our sightseeing Sunday. We walked through Chinatown, Liitle Italy and a couple of other districts, was about 6/7 miles, took us about six hours as we kept stopping for a drink. Mrs H was a bit pished when we got back so went straight to bed whilst I had a couple more drinks in the Hotel, great day.

You’ll love the place, I’ve been three times, favourite City I’ve visited, would go again in a heartbeat but it’s a bit on the expensive side and there’s a few other Cities on my list to visit before I’d consider returning.

I’m taking my 16 year old daughter in October, will she be allowed in bars with me, obviously she wouldn’t be drinking alcohol.

The Staten Island ferry from battery park.
It’s absolutely free and you’ll get close up to the Statue of Liberty and saves you paying to see it. Takes 30 mins, you get off and come back 20 mins later on the same ferry.
Do it twice.
Do it in day light and then one night when it’s dark go back and do it again. As you sail back to Manhattan, the lights are amazing ahead of you.

Look for the immigration desk, go through it and look for transit lounge. Book flights for Chicago, do not pass go, do not collect £200. Thank me later.

When a waiter asks if you would like coffee, say 'I'll take tea my dear'.

Fraunces Tavern is a top boozer. It's where Washington addressed his Generals after the war of independence. The dead Rabbit is also a cracking boozer.

There's a decent food hall nearby at the tin building. A ferry over to Dumbo is a must

We went again in May and this time went up the One World Trade Centre on a clear day. A spectacular 360 degree view. Loved it.
Then for a cracking pint of Guinness in O'Hara's near Ground Zero which is a sight to behold with the walls and ceilings leathered in emergency services badges from around the world following 9/11.

If you can get to the Winston Churchill bar you can find a photo of Colin Bell upstairs amongst all the other British memorabilia, which was a pleasant suprise when I was pissed after watching a City match. Going to the toilet in there is amusing too with Churchill speeches over the toilet speakers.

If you're able to ride a bike, hiring electric bikes (or non-electric) from a bike hire shop and riding them around Central Park is also a good experience. It's massive with great cycle paths and full of characters.

Watching the sunset from Brooklyn is decent too, sat down by the water with Lower Manhattan lighting up is also nice. Or walking along the Queen's side of the East River at night looking back over to Midtown all lit up too.

Washington Park is interesting. Lots of random shit going on.

Ferrying around the East River gives you a good perspective.

I wouldn't personally recommend a baseball game. I found it terribly boring.
Tipping can get to fuck too.

We've spent 11 days there in the last 3 years and each time we want to go back for more.

Gallaghers steak house, the best steak i ever had, but its pricey go in the afternoon. I loved the SOL, but we went up to the crown, you have to apply for tickets to go up 6 months in advance and then its worth it, otherwise probably a bit boring. The immigration building and museum though is amazing part of the same ticket. The vip tour of the one tower is good too. Gets you free drinks and the very top floor bar.

Ghostbusters Firehouse was a highlight for me. Did the usual Statue of Liberty, Rockerfella Centre, Empire State and enjoyed them all. The helicopter tours are awesome also.

Places to eat that were a highlight were Au Chevalle, Little Italy Pizza, Katz Deli and Lafayette. New York Bagel and Essa Bagel were mint. Time out market in Dumbo, Brooklyn, is a great food market with lots of different choices. Bark BBQ was a highlight there

Came back a few weeks ago after watching City, I’ve been 4 times now so I’ve seen most stuff
Walk everywhere or you’ll miss stuff
Rockerfeller during the day it had better views than Empire state go up there at night to see all the lights, both can be booked online or if you go to them yiu can book a time of your choosing.
9/11 museum is very haunting takes a good 2 hours to go around but worth it.
I’d get the Staten island ferry for free to see Statue of Liberty but when you get off turn right and get another ferry cost $4.50 but takes you up the left hand side of Manhattan to midtown.
If you want to go to a baseball game use Stub Hub and wait until last minute to get tickets they drop in price.
If you like Harry Potter there’s a great shop there.
When walking round Google film locations near me there’s loads, Ghostbusters fire station (it’s a working one)
Central Park is great and big!
It’s going to be humid as hell drink lots of water. Not many public toilets so if you need to go combine it with a $1 burger from McDonald’s.
Every fucker wants tipping!
You’ll have jet lag I used to love getting up early and grabbing a coffee about 5am and sit in Times Square not many around so you can get some good photos.

It's a pity that the Carnegie deli shut. Great sarnies and cheesecake.

Book empire state but go early or later...subway is great but you can meander from battery park up to central park in a day quite easily. Highline, old railway, is great for a walk. Summit one is amazing, ground zero is also, one world for views, intrepid carrier is huge, central park zoo plus museum's are bang on. Upper West for the best dogs.
