I wish I’d kept some of my musical memorabilia, too many house moves.
Anyway if I had I’d have remembered I also saw Widow Maker, a short lived rock supergroup led by Steve Ellis of Love Affair.I thought it was 75 but checking it was 76 and it was the first gig I went to to just see the support band , I left a few songs after the headliners Nazareth came on, again it was a TFH.
They only made one album with Steve Ellis and it’s not available on Spotify so can be added to the list as my bonus track.

Never saw Widowmaker but I do have the album. Guitarist was ex Mott the Hoople.

I’ve kept a fair bit of stuff, still got all the programmes I bought, but didn’t do that at every gig and stopped doing decades ago, as I did generally for merch. I have a load of badges somewhere in the attic. Also boxed up in there are a selection of music mags but the big loss - I have never forgiven my wife - was all my music papers. Kept them for years but they get a bit battered and mixed up from house moves and my beloved binned them.

A propos of nothing specifically to do with this thread. Was on the train this morning happily listening on my cans to Family, Fearless. It's not their best, far from it — the first two albums are simply peerless, they did drop away, quite badly — but for the umpteenth time I just realised that nobody sounds like them — or they sound like nobody — in that period.
Was thinking of starting a thread on it. Family — An Acquired Taste? People would probably think it's about family! (mind you, there's room for a thread on that, too). Wonder if it's worth it, just for them?

Sammy Hagar: Flamingos Fly

You can tell straight away that this was written by Van Morrison - apparently he gave the song to Sammy and even recorded a demo of it for him, before eventually releasing it himself in 1977.

It’s not very Sammy like but its one of those songs that has been making its way onto my summer playlists for a long time, but not all the way back to ‘76.

I did spot that wish :). Pulstar is probably my favourite Vangelis track; not that I’m any expert on him as I only have a few albums by him but A..0.39 is one of them.

Simply one of my favourite 20 tracks ever (according to the list I compiled for one of BH’s poll). One I have loved since 1976. I guess the lyrics aren’t very woke but it’s Phil effortlessly creating pictures in your head…

I loved Roger Chapmans voice for sure. The same sentiments for a few other Rock Bands though. Jethro Tull for example. They were pretty unique sounding. Maybe a thread on Rock Bands that don't sound like any bugger else?

Definitely. We've said before that if anybody wants to write a piece on any specific aspect of the year that we are covering then feel free. It was done for a year in the 60s covering the significance of the Brill Building in NYC. Was it KS55? Apologies if I've got that wrong.

Family are a band I’ve never really listened to. So there’s always something new to learn…

Jethro Tull on the other hand have gown and grown in my affections. I believe I have all their studio albums (9 of them as box sets!). Their 1976 album is not one of their best but the title track is great.

That's a really good point about making sure we don't sacrifice a broader understanding of a band or a theme to the year by year format.

To that point, when we move to the 80's I'll prepare a 10,000 word rant on the DX7 and just get it out of the way instead of spending nearly half a year slagging off each individual song that uses it :-) This also means that come 1982 I won't have to acknowledge that Toto put more effort in and used it much more intelligently than 90% of bands. Except I just have, doh.
