UEFA Women's Euros | England win final on penalties!

Whatever happens tonight, Wiegman — and England — have fulfilled their contract. A valiant defence of their title.

Yep, they have done very well so far , and rescued what looked like two hopeless
situations against good sides, they can be proud of themselves ..... Spain look the real deal though, and this will be the toughest game of all .... our girls can only give it their 'best shot', and just pray our name is on the trophy.

Anyone shocked James is starting?

Expect another 'injury' if England are losing.

As an aside that BBC montage of fans wishing the lionesses well. When did Danny Dyer turn into Freddie Mercury?
Yep.

Surprised her and Carter get starts to be honest. Not sure what Esme Morgan is thinking she has to do….

I think it’s a big gamble by the manager and I suspect one she might regret…

I didn't think she played well the other night, for the time she was on really, but she seemed to be carrying an injury ..... she is a top women's player on her day though, she's proved that with Chelsea, so we can only hope she is fit and raring to go for tonights match .. and NOT being put into the side still 'hogging' that injury, simply because of her name and reputation.

Think people really overstate how "bad" the goalkeeping is in the womens game and use any howlers they see to confirm their bias.

I cant find any data beyond 21/22 season but male goalies in the Premier league were twice as likely to concede a goal thanks to an error compared to a WSL keeper.

I think presently top flight women's football games average approx an extra 0.2 goals per game. Given that female keepers have a 15% smaller span than the males i dont think that's outrageous.

Obvs there's lots of different reasons and explanations behind those stats but I think you can just as easily put compilations together of poor goalkeeping in the mens game every single weekend.

Historically, I think female goalies weren't meeting the same levels as their team mates as a lot of clubs didn't employ goalkeeping coaches. But we've moved on since then. Think we've seen some great goalkeeping in this tournament as well as some very poor goalkeeping. Its all part of the entertainment either way.

With regards to Berger last night. We see goalies beaten on their near post ever single week. Criticise it for sure, but it happens all the time at all levels of the game. She was badly positioned but Bonmati's vision to spot that opportunity and the way she despatched the shot were world class.

Feels like whenever a female goalie makes a mistake, there's a certain type of person who immediately wants to drop what theyre doing to jump onto the internet to tell everyone about it. Its weird.
You wouldn’t want to be a Scottish lady goalkeeper making a mistake!
