It's Quiet the £250m return

Are you aware Ait Nouri played as an attacking left wing back for Wolves. He isn’t a defensive minded left back by any means. Not when I’ve seen him anyway. Look forward to watching him do well for City but he deffo isnt an out and out defensive left back. Hopefully Rodri’s protection will be invaluable as well
Yes, I am aware of that but having an attacking left back is better than having a centre half out there. We need a actual right back in the side too which like I said, would give us a natural balance. I agree that having Rodri back will be crucial, I just hope there's no lasting damage after his injury. Hopefully, that'll allow us to have Reijnders further forward instead of Gundogan and then one of Foden/Cherki/Gonzalez to complete the 3.

I am just hacked off that we never seem to be able to sort out a defence.

Even middling PL teams have decent left and right bCks who tackle. What is going on??
5th best defence still last year (in terms.of goals conceeded), conceeding only 3 more than the Dippers.

2nd best defence the year before

Clearly can be a lots better but don't see how we "never seem to be able to sort out a defence"

Its clearly not THAT bad

Not winning 5 titles in a row has done some strange things to people.

Don’t disagree with you but. This is what we need to change next season this is awful. It’s transitions that really hurt us last season.

Let’s not ignore the defensive injury problems we had last season and the inability for any pairing to get a run in the team. We were playing a number 8 and a number 10 as our PRIMARY fullback pairing for most of the season, too!

I’m going to go out on a limb and say most clubs would give their right arm to have a “disastrous” season like City had last season! I can think of 16 off the top of my head!

As for the transition game, we were clearly trying to cover our defensive frailties with a swarming attack that pinned the opposition in their own half…from where it is difficult to score against us. When that broke down, we were vulnerable and gave up goals.

However, as many have said, we were still big scorers while only being the 5th worst for GA. I expect improvements in both numbers this season, as has been the norm in the past.

Yea thats just not good enough but watching us play and seeing our starting XI its quite obvious why we were so vulnerable to the counters

What that does show is last season was a massive outlier for a Pep season and sure we wont he seeing numbers like we did last year

Anyone is practically the "right ons" when you don't have a single one on the squad. I'm not proposing we sign any old RB just to sign one but the idea that there are no viable RBs available in world football is farcical...just sayin'...

It's really not that simple. In fact that sort of simplicity is what has led to signings like Nunes. If you can't get your number 1 target, you wait until you're sure about who you want next. What you don't do is run around like a headless chicken when any selling club knows you've got money to burn.

I said as soon as the deals were completed for the players before the cwc that the window for us would be dead. Trafford in and that's us done i feel, then let's shift some out
Is there a disagree button on here?

I agree it's not simple, but it's NECESSARY nontheless. BTW who said anything about running around like a headless chicken? Use the process. Just like we just did for Ait Nouri, Reijnders.Cherki and Trafford. Chop chop fellas...

Isn't that the point though? If there is a player out there who they think represents both the quality and is available, then you'd expect that they'll sign him. If they don't then it suggests that there isn't one that they're sure will give them more than what they already have.

For the record, don't get me wrong I'd absolutely love them to sign a right back. But I don't want them adding players to the squad who aren't going to represent the sort of quality we've bought in Ait Nour, Reijnders, and Marmoush. If that means having to wait until next summer then I trust Pep can get much more out of Lewis and Nunes. The reality is they both played in an incredibly unstable team and unstable defence last season. If the whole team's performances improve, then I'd expect Lewis and Nunes's performances to improve too.

It isn't even just that, until we are sure who is leaving we can't be sure whether we are looking in the NHG or the HG market.

The current window lasts until 1 September 2025 so there will be a fair few exiting and maybe one or two more arriving in my opinion.
