The amount of points we tossed away, it drove me mad.

Lost games we didn't deserve to lose.

Drew games we should have won easily.

God knows what the reason was, complacency, fatigue, a year off etc.

It was bizarre but a refocus and I don't believe it will take too much to get back amongst it.
Probably fatigue starts it.
Then Injuries.
So a team starts to play players out of position to try and protect those that are tired but able to play - giving them a rest here and there.
Lose a bad goal or two and drop a few points. Confidence starts to go.

It is a domino effect but the big teams can usually cope for a couple of games. Grind out untidy wins. It went on for longer than that though - about 2 months? November ish it started? you got to the window and reinforced a little.

I guess the players have had some time off since the world cup? used some of that world cup time as a light pre season?

Yup I think people are forgetting how much we stank the place out in the autumn. In this calendar year we recorded the most number of points in the league and played one less game than Liverpool. Liverpool have recruited excellently and I'd be very surprised if they don't bring a centre back in. Will be a good tussle at the top

I got chatting to a Liverpool season ticket holder on Sunday & says he can’t believe we are being written off, he fancies them & I fancy us. We both agreed it will be close.

I put it down to both mental and physical fatigue.

After four years of unrelenting pressure, which resulted in an unprecedented Four-In-A-Row AND the Treble, something had to give.

There’s a reason (or several) why no team had ever won four English titles in a row.

Still find it incredible that their main sponsor has been caught THREE times money laundering for terrorists organisations and yet the sports media in the UK have given it zero coverage and even worse The Premier League haven't even got involved.

Now if that was us you can be absolutely certain the outcry in the media would be huge

If you actually are reading what I have said then you would know I stated these signings don't mean guaranteed success. The signings we have made.

Trafford still contracted to burnley isn't he? is he as good with the ball at his feet a Ederson? I watched him a few times play for Bolton and Burnley (on TV) but I don't know about that really. To be fair to the lad he's won something. Might be a better traditional keeper?

I answered your point about Joe Gomez. I asked you to use the same narrative about your own team. I don't see why you are getting all uppity about that.
You talk about what the players at city have won but successful clubs aren't overly sentimental. Stones, Ake and Dias have missed so much football and 'you' haven't bought new CBs. When Laporte got injured the club bought Ruben Dias? he was sensational. It might have been to replace Kompany.

'you' might make signings in this area. Window is wide open yet for over a month? World class players in quite a few cases need 'replacing' (might not quite be the right word)

We played on with Fabinho and Henderson for probably a season perhaps even two - too long. Matip eventually had to retire. It was quite clear to most that these players needed replacing long before they were. We may have done better had we been less reliant on them.

I am unsure why you need to know how long and why I support my football club. I don't actually feel one chooses their club. Some kind of magnetic emotional bind between the two.

I am here to discuss football.
We haven’t bought a new centre-back?

Khusanov and Reis ring a bell?

since then whistleblowers have said it has continued & there is another investigation……

In 2024, whistleblowers alleged Standard Chartered processed $100 billion in transactions that may have financed groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, the Taliban, and al-Qaeda C D.
• These claims are part of ongoing legal battles in the U.S. and UK, with over 200 investors suing the bank for misleading statements about its compliance E.
• The bank denies wrongdoing and says the allegations are “fabricated” and “meritless”.

Surely this brings the game into disrepute.

Get a bigger carpet and broom.

Both are young players with the future in mind. They are 4th/5th choice? in an ideal world? My point is about getting what would be considered world class quality cb/s to replace the like of dias, stone and ake IF their injury situations flare up again this season. You get another quality experienced centre back in and it takes the strain off the younger lads should injuries flare up.

Sssshhhhhhhh! That's one of the things you're not allowed to mention.

I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it :)

Ok - you would know - so apologies for my insinuation

It must just be that there is some compulsion to slag CITY off at every opportunity, because the vast majority of his/her posts are in that vein.

Maybe @Quinny851 just might think it appropriate to post something positive about CITY sometime
To be fair, the vast majority of my posts recently seem to have been arguing with "City" fans like yourself because they don't agree with my opinion.

Just because I don't call them murderers, or victims or cryarse about their hypocrisy doesn't mean to say I'm a scouser. And it's ok to admit that on paper, they've probably had a better transfer window than us so far. That doesn't guarantee them success, it doesn't mean to say that they'll piss the league. I do however think they'll finish above us but it's ok to disagree with me

Apologies if I haven't made a post after we've had all the success but I've been in the ground for every one of them and then in the pub celebrating. In future, I'll try harder and make sure you're tagged in such posts to see if you approve.

Agreed. If we cut some of those bizarre goals we conceded by half we would get another 10 points. We were pretty solid in the second half of the season. I am sure we will be in the mix for the title with Liverpool and possibly Chelsea. Arsenal will not score as many goals as the other three.

We have been slaughtered for our choice of sponsors but not a peep about Standard Chartered.

As the new season approaches, Arsenal to me look arguably the most balanced side in the League, and particularly if they manage to land Eze. Quietly and efficiently, they've gone about their business, and the pieces are falling into place. If I were their fans I'd be quietly confident.

Max Dowman is one to watch closely. Having followed him for the past few years, I genuinely believe he could be England’s answer to Lamine Yamal. He’s the most naturally gifted youngster I’ve seen in this country at his age for a long time - a player who could light up the Premier League when given the chance. If I were City, I wouldn’t hesitate to put £35–40 million down now. The talent is that clear.

Liverpool, on paper, still look strong - but the departures of mey players like Jota (RIP) and Luis Diaz could hurt them more than expected. Diaz, in particular, is a relentless presser and brings immense energy off the ball. Can Ekitike replicate that intensity? It’s uncertain at this stage. Ekitike is a natural Number 9 and has only played on the left wing a handful of times. Then there’s Florian Wirtz - a pure Number 10. Where does he fit in? It may require a serious tactical reshuffle, and inevitably, some difficult decisions over who makes way in the starting 11 at Liverpool. Their defence is clear for all to see, Van Dijk may be 34 but he's World Class, and Konate is a monster. Kerkez is a very good signing, Frimpong will be another Trent who's suspect defensively but immense going forwards.

Back to Arsenal though - the emergence of Myles Lewis Skelly is another huge plus. He is certain to progress even further this season as he's a top class prospect. At the back, Gabriel and Saliba form a genuinely world class centre-back partnership. The addition of Mosquera, one of the most promising young defenders around, only adds to their defensive depth. Then they have Timber, who's absolutely rock solid and should have been the Kyle Walker replacement. He is perfect for City at RB and we should have brought him in when he made noises of wanting to play for us.
In midfield, Martín Zubimendi sitting behind Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard could offer the perfect balance - giving Odegaard the freedom to dictate games and unlock defences as he used to be able to do. Add Bukayo Saka, the potential signing of Eze, and Gyokeres leading the line, and this is a side with serious strength across the pitch, and a side that is very dangerous.

City still boast the most complete squad in the league, but there are question marks. A high quality right-back is still a clear need, and much may hinge on whether players like Dias return to their best, and if Stones and Ake can stay fit. That said, City’s ceiling remains incredibly high. If those pieces fall into place, they will be as exhilarating to watch as ever especially with Mavericks like Rayan Cherki producing match winning moments on a regular basis. Our midfield 2 of Rodri and Reijnders on paper is the best in the league by some distance. The front 6 of Rodri, Reijnders, Cherki, Foden, Marmoush and Haaland is mouth watering. Drop Bernardo to the bench and take the shackles off this side, and I can see us blowing teams away.

If they do get Isak, though it pains me to say it, they'll have had a fantastic window. Wirtz, Ekiteke, Kerkez and Frimpong. With, probably, Isak as well. We'll have our work cut out to finish above them.

Our squad isn't bad, mind. We just need to tighten up at the back.

I keep hearing about how amazing their transfer window has been, but will they actually be stronger.

They’ve lost three regular first team players in jota (sadly), trent and Diaz. Three players who have been pretty crucial to their recent success. I don’t think the new full backs are anywhere near as good as Robertson or Trent either

Yeah, people saying they’ve already got the league sewn up before a ball has even been kicked are getting carried away. On paper they’ve admittedly had a good window, but not all signings work out and as you say they’ve lost a few senior players too. Hopefully we’ll pose a much greater threat to them next season.

If they get Isak and Guehi over the line before the end of the window I think they will be pretty hard to stop. It’s the big games where I’d say their first choice 11 will be too powerful.
