North Stand Construction Discussion

Can you imagine it.

The Oasis stage is at the South stand end of the Etihad. The Etihad is full, the North stand is full, the pitch is full, everyone is in City blue doing the Poznan to Cigarettes & Alcohol. A spectacle and a moment nobody taking part in the Poznan will ever forget.

Stage will always be at the north stand due to the service tunnel.

Good point. Doesn’t have to be though. Just drive the stuff down to the other end before building it all. Unless for fire regulations reasons it has to be? What a bummer though having all the fan zone, hotel, transport links etc down the ‘wrong’ end!
Maybe we should now extend the CB stand next including moving the service tunnel to the South side.

Where would it go?

It’s underground from outside the stadium to the north west corner.

It’s not possible to just move it like that.

You’re having a giraffe aren’t you?? It would cost a fortune…

I know it’s underground. I’m no authority on feasibility but if they can dig a tunnel from England to France then it would be reasonable to think a new service tunnel could be built at a football stadium.

It doesn't have to be.

The stage can easily be erected at the South stand end of the Etihad. There's nothing to stop that happening. The stage sections come through the service tunnel, are transported across the pitch, and erected in-front of the South stand,

City aren't going to waste the new North stand, including the 8000 capacity 2nd tier, the 700 GA+ seats, the hotel rooms with balconies, the restaurant and 3rd floating tier, as well as the larger capacity bars bars inside the new North stand because the stage is at the North end of the Etihad.

The reason it’s usually at that end is because of the service tunnel and the set up being so much easier & including access to the stage for the acts.

Don’t forget if they swap ends then they’ll also be losing 6k seats, the legends bar restaurant, the SSL1 fans bar, so it’s not a simple trade off. The two north stand screens usually flank the stage as well (just 1 at the other end).

Not impossible but it’s not a simple swap over either.

Yes, I get that. But the new North stand has changed things, including the 3000 capacity fans zone, with access to it, through it, to the North stand, and to the standing on the covered pitch. If it was still the old North stand there wouldn't be any change.

We'll find out next Summer.

How do they lose 6,000 seats? The north stand will hold (slightly) more than the south stand.
