Right back options

Never said anything about him lacking pace
He is weak in the tackle...that comes from mentality. Comparing him to Rico Lewis does your argument no favours...he ain't good enough either at right back.
I've said tge reason Nunes will pkay there is his better attacking ability.

His positive attributes as am attacking fullback aren't an issue...its his lack of defensive ability that is combined with that it means that Dias who is tge right sided centre back is then isolated cause Nunes positionally isn't great and likes to attack and his recovery runs while having the pace to get there are weak and back conviction to either get back goalside or put in an effective tackle
We'll agree to disagree. By season's end his ability to win in one on one situations, get stuck in, make recovery runs, cover the back post and use his body to gain positional leverage all improved 10 fold. It's not down to my opinion. It's all available on video for anyone to see,,,just sayin'...

We see it differently.. I've saidin past posts that he improved but he is still not good enough. For what it's worth I hope you are right

But we need to just be more defensively solid and let the likes of Cherki, Foden, Doku, Marmoush etc do the attacking stuff now? The full back stepping in etc has been worked out hence why we get counter attacked to death on.
Agreed. We don’t need an overlapping right back at all. Not with the attackers we have now and Ait Nouri at left back. We actually need a Stones, Khuzanov, Akanji to step across to form a back 3 when Ait N goes forward

not signing right back is huge mistake.

I'd like us to get an RB but I wouldn't go so far as to say huge...
If we are not going to buy a RB I'd nearly be happy enough to let Stones and Ake go. Great players but not reliable fitness wise.
Keep Kabore to fight it out with Nunes and Lewis for the rb position.
Dias Khusanov Akanji Gvardiol as the Centre backs.

I wouldn’t be against it, but it’s not a case of letting them go. If offers came in that they wanted to go to I doubt we’d stand in their way. They haven’t though, probably same goes for Gundogan, Akanji and Kovacic, Grealish too at the moment.

We are also letting Jamal SP go out on loan - not that he is anywhere near good enough but that also lessens our defensive back up/options.

I thought at one point last year Pep said he had seen the error in his ways regarding squad size. He said with the ncreasing number of games he might have to accept having a bigger squad - did he actually say something like this or was it someone else at the club?

Doesn't really matter. We have far more players than we can register

We will have a bigger squad than last year, but it still has to be smaller than it is because we can’t register t(em all.

Yup, I can just see Nunes now against Vini, Mbappé & the like... Not need to worry boys & girls, we're in safe hands with Nunes holding the fort against the world's elite where it really counts.

I don't think it's our choice unless we decided to pay off their contract and kick them out.
Reports out today indicate the club feel a squad revolution won't be in our best interests for the coming season, & that we need an experienced core to rely on during our transition.

I'm sorry, but this should have been our thinking two years ago after winning the treble. We can practically guess what will happen. We'll send many of our new recruits out on loan, & right on cue, Stones & Aké will be injured within two months of the transfer window closing.

The quality of the old guard has never been in doubt. It's their ability to stay fit & contribute consistently over a season that's the issue. It's all great & well having experienced players around a young, evolving squad. But if they're spending over half the season on the treatment table, of what use are they in the bigger scheme of things?

Pep sort of gave mixed messages about this. On one hand he mentioned not being able to rely on constantly injured players, & he lamented about the amount of games footballers were expected to play. Then he threatened (whether serious or not) to resign if he was given too big a squad.

For me, the telling comment came from Bernardo at the CWC, where he said the players liked having a bigger squad, as it gave them chances to play, rotate & rest. Something doesn't quite add up, & tbh, the only person at City I've ever heard complain about having a larger squad to help cope with the increasing demands of the game, is Guardiola.

You can't complain about the increasing demands of the game, but then threaten to resign unless you're given a high-quality threadbare squad. That sounds like complete lunacy.

Assuming we sell Oretga, loan Echeverri, Nypan, and Reis, we can sell Gundo/Akanji and buy a foreign right back. That's what I would do. Surely that's reasonable enough. The problem is, Pep keeps on playing the likes of Gundo and Manu, so no wonder they're not too keen on an exit.

We’ve had the best part of a decade of Walker being absolutely elite, the Premier Leagues best right back.

Replacing him with a midfielder whose own manager said he was too thick to play midfield will cost us for sure. Nunes has improved and shown a great attitude but we are an elite club who need elite options, not Akanji, Nunes and Lewis. My humble opinion of course.

So you're a pessimist, I get it...

No, a realist just like when I said we'd be fucked without Rodri, unless we got someone to challenge, rest & rotate with him.

The replies I got?

1. No one's coming here if Rodri's here.

2. Stones "can do a job".

3. Gundog's back. He can "do a job"

4. Kovacic "can do a job".

5. Akanji "can do a job".

We lost Rodri. Our season collapsed. We won fuck all. We were nearly relegated from the CL.

Mate, it didn't take Einstein to figure out what the likely outcome would be.

Also, let's say we go forward with Nunes as our RB for the season & he gets injured. Who dya reckon "can do a job" instead?
