I'd take it, unless you only put on a small bet. If you're looking at, say, £50, I'd take it. Don't forget, we're effectively 4 down with Woakes being unable to bat. And, as you said, one wicket changes everything. Smith wii be next in, and while he can tell one end of a bat from the other, he'd be our last "recognised" batsman*. When he goes, we're down to the tail end Charlies. Would you fancy Tongue or Overton to get 50+?


*Yes; Atkinson is capable of providing some resistance.

He's calmed down a bit to be fair. When I commented he'd just been caught on the rope, then ran down the track and sliced a few in the air.

This is what England are very good at, winning or putting themselves in the position to win, from very bad situations. We get out to a lot of silly shots, drop catches, bowl seam a bit up and down, but when the chips are down they have this ability to knuckle down and retrieve these bad situations. That is to be applauded. Hope I’ve been watching cricket long enough to have that opinion.

I was at Headingley that day when him and Overton (I think) smashed NZ all over the place. What a performance that was, bloody Yorkie. It was my eldest’s first ever day at a test match and he loved it and is a keen cricket watcher because of it
