Cricket Thread

When you are low on confidence, going even harder means you either make 500 or 150.

We were always going to have this drop off when we started Bazball. Being ultra aggressive creates awesome victories and awful losses.

This has nothing to do with Bazball.

England have been playing expansive, aggressive one day cricket since 2016 long before McCullum before head coach of the test team.

And England are still excellent in the T20 however it seems Matthew Mott just cannot grasp the 50 over game and has in my view said to the players play the 50 over as a T20 game.

It doesn't help that the 50 over side selection is all over the place. Since Mott has arrived they have used 31 players in the 50 over game. Thats too much and its just not a settled squad as it was between 2016-19

I am just reminiscing here, but I am an FOC so that’s allowed. As a kid I used to love one day cricket in England. You had the John Player Sunday league where every team played every other team over the season, 40 overs a side. Then you had the 2 knock out trophies, the B&H cup (55 overs) and the Gillette/Nat west trophy (60 overs) proper knock out trophies with atmosphere, 30k crowds in quarters and semis at Lancs. No what is there? Nothing that captures my imagination, certainly not the multi coloured soulless 100
The problem is modern life and people are time poor.

Nobody turns up to 4 day and 50 over cricket outside of international matches.

The sport has to follow the money, so everything is chucked at T20/100.

This then creates the problem of batsmen not caring about technique outside of the ability to clear mid wicket.

Therefore all forms of cricket are becoming different lengths of slogathons, just with different fielding restrictions.

I’m not sure where cricket will be in 10 years. Will international cricket still exist anymore or will players bounce from franchise to franchise playing T20 home run derby leagues around the world for far more money?

I’d love to see a proper 50 over knock out tournament, where at least the FOCs would turn up to watch

50 over cricket is being left behind, which is a shame in some ways.

It’s got the problem of overs 10-40 to deal with, but if you can only go to one day of cricket, it guarantees a good day out.

Test matches can too, but you might hit a day where a side is consolodating and only score 200/4.

Great days, my dad took me plenty of John Player Sunday games, and the knock out cups were brilliant as well, obviously helped that Lancs were some team back then as well, but you are making me reminisce as well now.
