Thought both umpires a little suspicious today. Taking so long on decisions. Overton should have got the benefit of the doubt.
Fine margins in the end, an almost identical ball tracking yesterday wher the umpire had given not out.

That said, I saw a statistic where 66% of the runs were coming (I assume for India) and our bowlers were constantly bowling either straight or at the legs/body with little cover behind square on the leg side; compare that to India today where nearly everything was outside off stump, and largely pitched up.

Extremely annoying, that. I'm not bothered about a drawn series maybe being the correct outcome; that win was there for the taking. Twice. Lunch on the second day, we were 92/1, in reply to India's 224. We should have been looking at a lead of 150+ on first innings, probably 200. We ended up with a lead of 23. Not enough players used their heads, and were dismissed playing daft shots. Again, yesterday afternoon, we were 301/3 (effectively 4), needing 73 more runs for the win, with Brook and Root cruising along. Brook then loses his train of thought, and gets out to a crazy shot. Getting beat by an innings, or by 300 runs, would be (in some ways) easier to accept as we would never be in with a chance of winning such a game.

Totally agree with you. Harry Brook throwing away his wicket was the pivotal moment yesterday & was completely unnecessary. Just brain dead cricket that exposed the rest of the team. Pretty shameful to have lost 6 wickets, for 66 runs in 23 overs.

England's tail is not as good as people make out, Once we got down to Smith the wicket keeper it was always going to end this way. I am still not 100% about Smith for the Ashes with the gloves and bat

Comes back to Brook throwing his wicket again.

YOUR BOYS TOOK ONE HELL OF A BEATING (may have gone a bit early with this one)

The ultimate jinx from 300/3 to 367 all out. Sorry, couldn't resist picking on this.

true, but everyone thinks we bat right down to 10 haha or 9

What i think is even if we had won the test and won the series 3.1 it was a lot closer than that
2.2 is about right and both teams can take something out of the series,
I absolutely agree.
Expecting the batsmen down the tail & then the bowlers to hit the winning runs is not very realistic, certainly not against the quality sides like India.
It just makes the one dimensional & often brain dead batting approach all the more annoying. When you see some of the dismissals by supposed top quality batsmen in this series, it drives you mad. I’m completely on board for attacking & entertaining cricket & there have been many very good days with England over the last couple of years, but there often seems to be a one size fits all approach to the batting when sometimes you just need to dig in & grind out the result.
England were in total control when Root & Brook were batting. Brook throws it away, exposes Bethal, who shouldn’t even have been picked with his lack of cricket played, Bethal dominates the strike but can’t score, Root barely faces a delivery for a while & has a bit of a brain fart when he gets to face a few deliveries, then suddenly the tail is exposed & it was so predictable that England would blow it.

They made terrible decisions on the lbws, both folded under pressure. Even though the replay said umpire's call, I doubt the Overton one would have even dislodged the bail!lbw.jpg

Money talks in cricket as it does in football, and in cricket India is where the money is. That said, any team that drops six catches in one innings deserves to lose.

He looked pretty hopeless today but I’m not sure how you can say this considering he’s averaging close to 50 and generally looks quite solid behind the stumps.

Posting competitive totals against the likes of Hazelwood, Cummins, Starc, Boland and Lyon will be our biggest obstacle.

Absolutely right. That and Smith unfathomably playing like he’s never held a bat before…
One other thing, which I suspect is not going to be universally popular, but, once they’d seen that pitch, Anderson should have been flown down straight away.
Good point well put - I thought the very same when Tongue bowled 11 extras in his first over !!!!!
