One singular moment does not lose a league season.
It may well appear that way but when one analyzes an entire season one will be better educated on the matter.

We conceded far too many goals, as well as losing at home to Southampton and away to Hull city. We drew with WBA, Aston Villa and had a goal by Raheem Sterling flagged offside despite being onside by about 3 yards against CIty. I think that would have put us 0-2 and we go on to lose the game 2-1. We then lost our next game also 2-1 against Chelsea away.

We went into the final 3 games needing 7 points from 9 but with a defence that had conceded i think 46 goals in 35 games. We weren't set up nor capable of playing for a draw. We played into Mourinhos hands and the whole atmosphere was far too emotional. Everyone was frustrated and we lose the game.

Against Palace it was probably for 66-70 minutes one of the most attacking performances from a Liverpool side i have ever witnessed. We had great chance after great chance and if we had been 9 goals ahead it would not have been unfair but the ball would not go in after we scored the 3rd. I said to my missus we are not gonna win this game. One could just see it unfolding. We had given everything and we're dead on our feet.

The truth of the matter is that Title winning teams don't concede 50 goals and drop points against several of the bottom end 'fodder' whilst also losing against their title rivals. Chelsea x2, City x1 and Arsenal x1.

Gerrard and Suarez were the main reasons we were in a title race. Gerrard got double figures for both goals and assists. It is unfortunate that what he said came back to bite him but life can be cruel. I get why people and especially supporters of other clubs say it but Gerrard was not the reason we didn't capture the league title.

We just weren't good enough over the season.
The Slippy G moment was still very, very funny though.

Its funny how in the media this summer there is a clamour to defend Liverpool's spending.
"Why Liverpool are able to spend £500m this summer" type articles I keep seeing.

If it was us (we'd have a low net spend the past few years) there isn't a hope in hell you'd see this narrative.

It was mate

If Gerrard hadn't have done the ol' slippy thing youd have won it

Glad he did though, as its what hes remembered for the most

Just seen the headlines and apparently this 16 year kid is the new Pele

He needs to be sold then or loaned he will never get game time with there squad he be wasted there!

That’s what we get with all our young players

All the time we get in mate don't we? you can get a place in the Argentina squad and not get a game for us.

And some of our fans nod and think they'll see them in a shirt for us when they don't really stand a chance from the get go and it doesn't matter how good they appear to be.

I think that is why he left Chelsea.

This is what Fabrizio Romano reported at the time.

Chelsea tried their best to keep him.

I highly doubt it was a financial issue. There are reports that it was to do with a pathway to the first team and that he had discussed moves to other clubs too.

This kid was being pursued by Barca and Bayern too. Chelsea tried everything they could to keep him. It's entirely possible that Liverpool offered him (or his family) financial incentives to choose them over Barca, Bayern or staying at Chelsea.

I certainly know for sure if Chelsea had poached Rio from Liverpool, the prevailing narrative would be that it was financially motivated.

Don't you think it would be strange, if Chelsea couldn't compete financially, given what has happened since the takeover? How many players, have Chelsea has in their academy/youth teams, that have ultimately either not fulfilled their potential? ended up being loaned out, a lot of times, then moved on?
He may well have been promised a pathway to the first team. Hence his recent involvement. He turns 17 this month and can sign a professional contract. He likely needed to be convinced before signing it.

Chelsea has spent a lot on transfer fees, but have actually worked hard to reduce the wage bill considerably.

We produce PL ready talents at a much higher clip than other clubs, including Liverpool. Bar City, who also have a world class academy. The fact that some slip through the net is neither here nor there. There is always more to come.

Liverpool don't have a better track record of integrating youth players than Chelsea. Certainly not in the last 10 years or so. We just produce so many that the overspill of Cobham players making a splash at other clubs is something people use to count against Chelsea.

Usually when a young player is in such high demand, every club is promising pathways and attempting to sell a project to the family. Romano reported Liverpool were willing to break their academy wage structure to land him.
