It's Quiet the £250m return

What's he done in senior football to suggest he's brilliant? The club have had a good look at him for 6 months now and want him to go out on loan. He's obviously not ready yet and may never be.
He was absolutely exceptional at the U20s and I think it would be a big mistake to let him go. He wants to play at the World Cup. And he could be its star. If we give Roma contractual rights to him, and he does well there, he won't want to leave. We should simply say to Roma, that you can loan the player but you do not have an option, and if they don't accept it, no deal. Why are we considering loaning a player who was considered good enough for the FA Cup Final and the Club World Cup? He's clearly a significant member of our first team squad. And I don't believe he'll be on big wages either. Play him in the Cups and use him off the bench.

Seriously?
Yes. People are seemingly getting excited about his performances at youth level because there's very little to go on in senior football. If he was brilliant and ready now the club wouldn't be putting him out on loan.

I'm not suggesting we give up his contractual rights. We bought him as a relatively low risk gamble based on what he's done in kids football. The club obviously don't feel he's worthy of a squad place right now.

This isn't intended for you Maestro. Just saying. Just a disclaimer ;)

Alternatively, the club is struggling to sell our older players and desperately trying to reduce the number of players. It's not ideal, to say the least.
Reis, Echeverri, Nypan, and it better not be Khusanov next. The whole what somebody has done doesn't work either, because if you are not given a chance, you can't do anything. On the other hand, players like Gundogan, incredibly accomplished, are hardly going to much more in his career. Echeverri might do a whole lot, and would certainly offer us more than 35 year old Gundogan.

If anything, the reports are saying we are refusing a loan offer with a 35m fee option, which tells you the club rate him higher than you can bring yourself to admit.

A brilliant prospect but not ready for the first team now.
Don't entirely disagree but that is a bit of a shift from 'kids football', fair enough.

If we weren't 4 players over the limit, I think he would be kept and (gradually) brought into the first team. As is, he is an easier one to find suitors for than other senior players.

The fact there is a club willing to offer 35m for him as part of a deal, and nobody looking to offer anything for the likes of Grealish, or that much for McAtee is also a bit telling.

It looks like the club are reluctant to send him on loan, but may ultimately do so due to our squad size. Unless something else gives first, which is where things are. Happy with whatever they decide.

Why is everybody freaking out about a report from corriere dello sport, it is a joke of a newspaper, the italian version of the daily mail and even if it was reliable its saying what roma want, not what city are prepared to do or want, what roma want is immaterial in this deal, they hold no leverage here.

I think the problem for Claudio is he's competing with Marmoush, Bobb ,Savinho, Foden, Cherki, Doku for the 11, 7 and 10 spots.
Unlike Ries, he's not being hindered by Pep's fragile favourites.

If you go by online discourse and articles in Argentina. Echeverri is looked at as the future of Argentina national team the gem . He’s also according to river fans had special treatment since 15, due to his talent. Multiple clubs were looking at him so if you go by that we’ve got a special talent.

The only problem river fans say is his brother and agent. The way he left river as well he destroyed all relationships and pissed off many behind the scenes , including fans. Which shocked people as he comes from one of the poorest places in Argentina.

Cheers, hadn't known any of that.

But on the flipside of the last part, Argentine football fans are fickle as fuck.

I think differently. Ultimately, he will be competing more centrally, in the areas of the park currently held by Gundogan, Bernardo, and Kovacic, two of whom will almost certainly leave next summer. He’ll be 20 in January, but if loaned abroad for a season, will he really be ready to step up and play centrally in season 26-27? Highly doubtful; Spain and Italy are highly technical but much slower and much less physical. If not, then he’d need another season of acclimatising to the physical demands, which would mean he’s on our periphery until 27-28. If he cannot be retained now, and that’s down more to our inability to shift others as opposed to his talent, then a loan in England is paramount.
