Lucas Paquetá

While we do have a plethora of midfielders/attacking midfielders, many of them are either young, unproven in England, inconsistent, or injury prone. Paqueta is battle-hardened and presumably wants a final bite at the big time, maybe even has a point to prove. Wouldn’t be against him coming, but many pieces on the chess board would have to be moved around or even taken off it for that to happen.
Just don't see it happening. No space, no reason, no long term need.

I can only really see this happening if we promised him if he was cleared we’d sign him.

Talk in Brazil of Jack going the other way but can’t see that happening

That would’ve been Txiki, though.

Can’t see us spending a lot to go back in for him - as much as I’d like us to!

I wouldnt be entirely sure as Jack would be a huge signing for West Ham and Pep was desperate for Paqueta before?

This is what I thought when we bought Grealish in 2021 (at the time in terms of attacking midfielders and wingers, we had KDB, Foden, Bernardo, Mahrez, Sterling, Jesus, Gundogan etc) but we did it anyway, which is why I'm concerned these links are true. While he did prove to be a huge asset in the treble-winning season, that's not the point here.

We have Foden. We have Cherki. We have Marmoush. That's before we mention Doku, Savinho, Bobb. We do not need another attacking-minded midfielder or wide player

Total waste of money. Either we address our main need — a natural right-back — or we don't buy anyone and focus exclusively on getting rid of Grealish, McAtee, Ortega, Philipps etc

Maybe, unless its Pep driven? Pep was said to be a massive admirer of Paqueta, one of the reasons we were going to sign him.

No space I can agree with. However, long-term requires defining. He’d be much like Kovacic’s signing, a bridge until others have matured; Paqueta is the kind of player O’Reilly could well become, but only in 4-6 years. The reason I say that is because Paqueta is a real physical unit, and young players cannot acquire that physicality in just a couple of seasons. If we have questions over Rodri’s ability to come through the season unscathed, then I could well understand an interest in Paqueta. Minus Rodri and de Bruyne, we lack a bit of heft in midfield, and for all their other attributes, the more recent signings, including Gonzalez and Reijnders, just do not come with that power. Still unconvinced it will happen, but I can see the reason in it.

Just don't see us going in for another flair player.
My thinking is more Paqueta added to Reijnders & Gonzalez covers us for Rodri & other CM positions. All dependent on clearing out Gundog, Kovacic, McAtee & Grealish.

We lose four & gain one, which helps reduce our bloated squad & offers us a more long-term midfield option going forward. If WHU take McAtee or Grealish in exchange, it's a win win all round.

Macatee to Forest looks more likely imo.

Paqueta is class and PL proven we should be all over him.

But none of those four have left lol. Kovacic injured and won't go. Gundogan is staying another season. McAtee and hopefully Grealish will go once decent offers come in

Transfer makes no sense, will only hurt gametime for players most in need of it to recover their form

Sorry to point out the obvious, BUT that's the issue. Several older players have said they're staying, so what do we do with the new players presumably brought in to replace them if they refuse to leave?

Make them wear a red shirt in training. If they survive give them an extension, but tell the younger midfielders in advance what the deal is.
Medics, stand by.

Fine. The older players want to stay. Of course they do. They're on better money than they'd get elsewhere.
However we don't have to play them.

I'd tell Kovacic, Gundogan and 2 from Stones/Akanji and Ake they will not be playing much if at all. If they want to hang around training on their own ok. Otherwise find a club.

If we are genuinely interested, it must mean we are planning to sell Gundogan and Kovacic surely.

If that’s the case I’d be in, especially if it meant an easy route out for Grealish.

That being said, would ruin Nico G’s chances at the club. Pep must really not rate him.
