Will we win the league this season?

We have a good chance, a very good chance. Last season we were absolutely diabolical and managed to finish 3rd. Liverpool while a good side are not the greatest team we have ever seen. Snot has his second season syndrome to deal with.
I think we will give it a good shot and it will be a lot closer this season.

BBC poll currently reads:

Liverpool 52%
Arsenal 13%
Manchester City 11%
Chelsea 9%

Liverpool will buy again as they have 4 forwards: Chiesa, Ekitike, Gakpo and Salah. Salah is 33 and will be at the ACON in Dec/Jan. Most people are assuming that Isak will sign but I think that's far from a done deal. If Rodri and Stones are 100%, City will win the league but I think that's unlikely. Most likely Stones will get 15-20 games and Rodri will slowly recover, that's reasonable, and where would that leave us? Somewhere in the top 4 for sure but Stones, Rodri and Haaland are our top 3 players, and 2 of them we have questions about.

Doku could be the dark horse this season
He could. And Foden might be back to his best. Also Cherki and Reijnders have very high potential.

If City play
---------------Ederson
-----Stones---Dias----Gvardiol

with Nunes and Ait Nouri at wing-back, and Rodri anchoring midfield, we will be very hard to beat.

If.

No. Wingers aren't good enough and no right back. Needed to get rid of some serious deadwood which we've not managed at all.

Everyone else has massively improved. Hell, even the rags have improved massively by blowing mind blowing money on a new starting 11.

Think we finish 4th. Scousers will win it.

Our biggest problem is that we knew we had to replace Stones and Akanji months ago.

We’ve signed 3 centre half’s this year - Bah is playing in France - Reis we are trying to farm out to Girona and Khusanov they have decided is nowhere near up to our standard. All 3 signings really poor that won’t ever play any meaningful games for City. Reis and Bah unlikely to ever make another appearance.
Eh?!

Khusanov has already played meaningful games in his first few months for us against Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool (where he was our best player on the day), Tottenham (where he was our best player on the night), Forest and Brighton, as well as a full 90 in the Bernebeu against Madrid in the CL, keeping Vinicius Jr quiet.

He won our POTM in February by a landslide.

He looks like a fantastic prospect and is a great signing.

Bah also looks a good prospect and has been getting a lot of praise for his performances at Lens.

And Reis is a highly rated young centre back who Madrid, Arsenal and Brighton all wanted to sign.

There are always ways of writing pros and cons that can convince we’ll either win the title or won’t. Some see fantastic young players signed, others see no right back and no goal threat from anyone in midfield. I guess the reality is somewhere in the middle.

Unfortunately I personally believe we haven’t addressed enough of last season’s issues. Liverpool and Arsenal have properly strengthened but for some reason yet again we’ve been reticent to match that level of spending, and that will cost us any trophies this season.

I think we have matched their spending in quality. Price, yes we got better deals than they did.As for goals from midfield, heres a rough conservative guess. Rodri 6, Gonzalez /Kovacic 6, Cherki 10, Reijnders 8, Foden 12.

There is a good point there. If we’d paid £120m for Cherki and it was all over the media how amazing and ‘maverick’ he is, and £100m for Reijnders, then I’d honestly feel more confident we’d be winning it this year. Psychology I guess.

The January window was baffling that we spent that money on players that got nowhere near the first team barring Marmoush. Could the money used on Vitor Reiss have been on this summers budget instead? The official line on Wirtz is that City didn’t sign him because of the money, instead we spent money 6 months earlier on a player that isn’t deemed ready for City yet and will be at Girona for a year.

The Argentinian kid came in January and now he’s being shipped off to Roma. We seem to go after potential now rather than ready made quality like we did when Pep first came with Bernardo, Walker, Mahrez, Sane, Stones etc.

I agree and I think that’s what will cost us this season. Some of the youngsters might make it, but it’s a gamble.

It’s just so disappointing that we bottled spending £100m on Wirtz when all the financial figures and income for the club consistently look so good, and in fact better than those for Liverpool who are spending money like we ought to be, and like we should have done after our last title.

We’ve made some good signings, but not enough, and not addressed some of our shortcomings. Doku and Savinho not good enough. Bernardo, no longer productive. Lewis, nowhere near the level we need. Nunes, not a defender yet forced to play there. Stones, best in the world in his position but injured every three games.

If Stones, Ake and Akanji have seasons like last year with fitness we might regret shipping out Reiss and Simpson Pusey.

Big pressure on Doku and Savinho, they have to deliver otherwise Bobb could jump ahead in the pecking order and I can see us being in the market for wide players next summer if they don’t.
