Spot on ...... unless his memory's fading, Pep should already know can happen this from his experiences of playing Raheem Sterling in games at Liverpool, and I'm still wondering why, because he was totally ineffective ..... it takes a player with the right attitude and temperament to overcome playing in games at their former clubs, they are not games for 'bottle jobs'.

So yes., i agree that next week is NOT a game for Nunes ... it's a game for an eager to impress Khusanov, who did okay last night, and was doing nothing wrong (on the pitch) generally before he was benched last time out ... I might have said Lewis, but at the moment, I'm not all that convinced we can rely on him, and Pep might still have doubts too.
I don’t think your implication that Raz was a “bottle job” in games v the dippers stands up to scrutiny.

The overwhelmingly important factor to bear in mind when judging those performances is that on many of the occasions when he faced the dippers they were a better team than every other team he played against and so naturally it would be harder for him to make an impact on the game.

First game is always a bit random, in fact the first four games could go either way. Last season we started strongly and then it all went horribly wrong. In a nutshell, wait and see
We started last season getting results despite looking a shambles. When it went tits-up it wasn’t a suprise as far as I was concerned.

Only one point against the Rags was pathetic and to loose a consecutive FA Cup Final was a terrible end to the season.

The game in Florida against Al Hilal was a shocker.

Not expecting anything special this season so I hope the team prove me wrong.

But apart from that we are okay

Ederson

Lewis
Stones
Dias
Ait Nouri

Rejinders
Bernardo
Gundogan

Cherki
Haaland
Marmoush

We should win if he puts out our strongest team available.

Ederson
Nunes
Stones
Khusanov
Ait-Nouri
Nico
Reijnders
Cherki
Marmoush
Haaland
Bobb

There would be a strong bench if changes needed.
That would beat most teams but almost certainly Wolves.

Possibly ..... but on the other hand truly great players have the ability to block out abuse from the stands, rise above it, and use it to both their own, and their teams advantage ... by takin' the game by the scruff of the neck, playing really well, and helping their team to wipe the floor with the opposition!

If the other players had of seen Sterling putting in maximum effort at Anfield, it may well have inspired them into doing the same .. and it could have an impact on our results there!

Well I mean it’s our first real test of where this squad is at, is what I meant.
Every game from here on is important ... definitely starting at Wolves .... we won't be the only top team expecting to win next Saturday, and the likelihood is that some, or all of the others will win!

You know it makes sense to try and get into.Peps head. It could be the only thread he reads in here to get pointers from us. ;)

Fair comment, I think we can safely say he wasn’t a “truly great player”

I actually liked Sterling, i thought he was excellent during his earlier seasons for us, and he scored plenty of goals, as well as 'assisted' many .... it was just a shame that he had a bit of a 'run in' with Pep towards the back end of his time here, and was eventually moved on back down south ..... I think he's originally from the Wembley area, so the move to Chelsea probably suited him.

Exciting going forwards, potentially catastrophic at the back, which I suspect will be the theme of the season.
