Was outstanding against us last season saves he pulled off were brilliant kept them in it till they destroyed us in the second half
And that is the thing, he with his saves make differents, every team wants keeper like that.
But some people argue about passing, like keeper should be better at passing than saving goal which is weird.

I think he would be a great signing. He actually does what a keeper is meant to do. And that's keep the ball out of the net!!

Nominated a balon d'or candidate recently.

Might not be the best with his feet like Eddie. But that can coached into him.

I'd be amazed if we pulled this off!!

Its not as simple as just passing it to the next man over, Ederson has an outfield brain. He knows what pass to make and when to make it, he wont play the pass that immediately puts a player under pressure that they then dont have options to get out of, he'll play the pass into the free man, or if there is none, will play it into the space where a player will become free.

People like to attribute the quarterback role to holding midfielders and i get why but Ederson is truly the closest thing to a quarterback in football, he starts all the plays.

No other keeper on the planet has that kind of footballing intelligence, and that's the real difference not simply a much better distribution than everyone else.

He's a master of his game, so much so that the opposition respect that and dont even try to apply a high press because they know with Ederson there it's 11v 10 and puts themselves in a exploitable position.

We've heard other players say they change their gameplan when Ederson is in net because of this. The second he's not in net, it opens up the opportunity for teams to press us high again and force turnovers and we'll see a return of us giving away stupid goals more frequently than we currently do.

Ederson is integral to our entire game and im not sure how you're not seeing that after this many years. I can only assume some have become so used to it they no longer appreciate how unique he is. We'll all see it when he's gone.
What I regularly is 10 men sitting deep not leaving their half and us playing very slow ball rotation. No idea what impact Eddie should have in that. IF Eddie would initiate our attacks we would need pace to use open spaces - and I'd LOVE that. But that's not what happens.

But wait - if they press us for Donnarumma being a disaster at kicking that means Erling and Omar finally get what they are BEST at - pace on the break!! Hallelujah, get that Italian bugger in asap :))

You'll not find me arguing against us playing quicker more direct football, I've wanted to see that since the treble win but Peps ideas dont seem to suggest we'll see that, if teams pressed us high I'd wager we would still see us trying to play through it and allowing teams to reset once we break through, it'll just take longer and be riskier to get us into a position to face 10 men on the edge of their box.

The vast majority of PL goalkeepers know how to do that nowadays and do it brilliantly.

I coach at a very high level in girls football and we coach every goalkeeper to do it, from the U7s to the age I work with (U16s). Those who can’t grasp / deliver it don’t get picked up as they enter open age football.

The level of repetition, practice and learning that goes into it is huge. We often spend whole 2 hour sessions on that alone.

It’s that integral to the role nowadays. You’re making out Ederson is some unique goalkeeper. He isn’t. They’re all doing it.

We’ll play the same way whether it’s him, Trafford, Ortega, Donnarumma or you in net.
I am 100% saying Ederson is unique. There's nobody close to him. We see it when Ortega has stepped in, we'll see it when Trafford plays and if Ederson goes, we'll see it weekly.

Why don't we train Ederson to make saves like Donnarumma? Or Trafford to play like both?

Keepers who play like Ederson with their feet will be few and far between - he's not the best in the world at it because he tried it once. In the same way, Donnarumma is much better at the usual keeper stuff, arguably best in the world.

Question is whether Donnarumma's footwork is good enough for a Pep team. I'm not convinced, as it would require a complete change in philosophy to one he's never played wherever he's managed

You’re forgetting Pep’s worked with Neil Warnock recently so we’ll probably just boot it long and you’ll hear Pep shouting ‘fucking kick him’ ; )

Some turning their nose up at one of the best keepers in the world for a championship keeper

Why don’t PSG want him then? He’s an absolute liability with the ball at his feet.

There’s a few transfers I’ve not fancied over the years, this one is right up there.

Well he’s definitely off with his statement just now so it’s either us or United

He saves goals which is the most important thing with a goal keeper

Yeah but if we sign Donnarumma we've essentially just Angelino'd Trafford.
Why can we only have one elite player per position? We played some of our best football when we had two great players per position. The only position we didn’t have that for was the GK position and it cost us regularly in the UCL.

We can’t go into the season with Trafford and Ortega as our no.1 & 2. Our whole season would rely upon a player who had a great season in the championship and a keeper that has wanted to leave for a while. The profile of player City would want to replace Ederson is someone that is older, willing to sign a short term deal, good enough to start but also wouldn’t mind competing with Trafford. That profile doesn’t exist, Donnarumma is the closest to that profile hence the links

Apparently Haaland also pushing for this as well as Pep. If true we really have him the keys and I’m all for it.
