Given we don’t have a top class spinner, given the injury records of our pace bowlers, given the records of our batsmen down under and given that we haven’t beaten India or Australia at home with Stokes/McCullum then anything less than a 5-0 defeat in the Ashes will be a surprise.
I’m not convinced that the Aussies are top class but we shall see.

Just on the train back oop north from a fabulous day out in Taunton watching Lancashire beat Somerset.

Was touch and go tbh, I thought they hit the ball harder, timed it better, and placed it better than us, but Balderstone’s knock mid innings was superb and took us on to the platform for victory, which was still a nervy one losing so many wickets.
The Thatcher cloudy cider wasn’t bad either.

Anyway, although the train is busy, I’ve noticed I’m sharing it with a few red shirted football fans.
Pretty quiet journey tbh.

Was looking a bit nervy at one stage……well done Lancashire, now for the Yorkies Tuesday

Balders is quality and is well deserving of his County Cap, which he got last week.
Top lad too.
Like @heslops barnet said 'now for the Yorkies Tuesday'.

The county cap thing is very old fashioned. While players had to wait for their county cap, gentlemen were granted it automatically.
After a short pause, there will be a weak joke about Dutch players and their wives.

I loved that joke! Who needed awkward lessons in school when you had a bevvied uncle explaining why they were laughing at that joke????!!!!!!!!!!

As an aside, I'm sure there used to be separate changing rooms for capped and un-capped players.

Yes, also separate gates from pavilion on to the field.

Between 1887 and 1952 every England captain was a gentleman, ie an amateur. Hutton was the professional captain in 1952, but there were several amateur skippers after that, notably Ted Dexter and Colin Cowdrey.

From next summer the T20 Blast competition reduces the group stages by two games to 12 matches per side, with the quarter-finals and Finals Day following on directly so the competition is wrapped up in one block.

The two groups of nine sides will be replaced by three groups of six split into north, central and south groups as they were in 2020.

The group stage of the Vitality T20 Blast reverts to three groups with North, Central and South Groups with the eight best-placed teams on points and net run-rates going through to the quarter-finals.

North Group: Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Durham, Yorkshire and Leicestershire

Central Group: Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Birmingham, Somerset, Glamorgan, Worcestershire

South Group: Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Middlesex, Essex, Hampshire

Each county plays the other teams in their group home and away - a total of 10 matches.

They will additionally play one home game against a county from outside their group and one away game against a side from another group.

The top two teams in each group plus the best two third-placed teams progress to the quarter-finals. The winners of the quarter-finals will progress to men's T20 Blast Finals Day.
