Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

I won't be making up my mind about 21 year old players based on the peak years of club legends.
What I will do is look at potential - what are his strengths, how could he improve.
I think Savinho has the potential to be top-drawer. If his mentality and fortune matches his football skill, we could be looking at a worldy, IMO. Time will tell who is right but I would love him to stay and fight for his place.

It will be interesting to witness how our wingers respond to Cherki as a creator, in the way that those former greats responded to KDB.
Cherki may well make a big difference but only if the two wingers have the footballing nous to anticipate what he can do and make runs that he can find. The question then is can they convert those positions into goals or assists. Like everyone else I like to see young players succeed but in the first team, only when they are good enough to play for an elite club playing for multiple trophies. Savinho (or Doku) are not good enough yet. The number of assists and goals they have do not lie. Happy to see them kept but not as regular starters just now. I put Doku ahead of Savinho. Savinho has much to prove if he remains.

Not neccesarily a worry but why would we want to strengthen a side we are about to face when we can delay it until after? Makes no sense not to.
If he was a club legend, sure. He is a young player that has been here a year. Don't think it is worth the hassle of delaying a deal that then delays us getting in a long term replacement. For the sake of one game. Imo.

Cherki coming from Lyon is not really any more guaranteed than Savinho coming from Girona.

I also think Cherki has incredible potential but it seems like it doesn't take much to be "underwhelming" off the back of one ok not amazing season.

I sincerely hope (and expect) Cherki to score and create far more goals than Savinho.

Even if we got Rodrygo in before that match?
I doubt we would be throwing any replacement in straight away anyway. We have plenty of options but if we were to want to do that, there's no reason why we couldnt do that and delay the savinho sale until after.

What would be the hassle in saying he completes the deal after the deadline to be registered to play against us? The two arent mutually exclusive, we could bring in his replacement ahead of that with no issue.

Depends on ambition. Do we want to be serious contenders or have another transition season? I ideally want wingers and midfield players to contribute goals and assists and make sure Haaland is fed multiple chances. That didn’t happen enough last season. Do you have confidence that Savinho and Doku will contribute far more this season? It’s all just opinions mate. I just don’t. Particularly in the case of Savinho who doesn’t seem to respond well when things aren’t going his way.

Maybe, but with 3 players over the limit already, I think signing players before others leave is not likely. But I get what you are saying.

I don't think it would be a deciding factor. If it is, fine with that too.

The deciding factor will be spurs not paying the required fee imo.

67m quid sounds about right, I thought an acceptable fee was around 70 a few days back.
Levy for sure will still be too stubborn and greedy to pay that

When the deal is already in place, squad numbers is a non-factor. Savinho would be left out until his sale after the spurs game and we're free to bring in a replacement as quickly as we like.

You take every single bit of competitive advantage you can get and if you're able to prevent your opponent from having a player they'd like to be involved when you face against one another with zero cost to yourself, you 100% take it every single time.

You see it regularly enough, deals delayed until the fixture is completed or gentleman's agreements that they wont feature, which im sure we would never be so daft as to agree to with Levy. it's actually very rare you don't see that happen when the opportunity presents itself.

For me it's a weird one. I wouldnt give up Doku or Savinho. I'd still happily add Rodrygo. Maybe I'd loan out Bobb to get him back up to speed, get him maximum minutes. But I'm not sure about that as we're a bit light on attackers.

But because of the mess of squad places and having 7 CBs, 7 CMs (and buying 4 more in January, half of which are on loan) we're not able to make football decisions to improve ourselves.

I would live with Rodrygo for Savinho and keep Doku who seems like he has a really good mentality and wants to learn. Your points about the squad are well made. Hopefully it will be larger than usual and Pep will need to get over his aversion for ‘sad faces’ tbh both the youngsters and the others facing the last year or so of their contract would understand the need for rotation and exclusion from some matches. I really think Pep’s point is overplayed and squad strength in depth is crucial.

Give the lad a chance FFS, he has only just joined City.

I think he will, in all fairness.

I don't think Spurs will offer what we want. I think what we want is onnthe oow side anyway, but we are reasonable that way.

I don't think he wants to leave enough to push it, I don't think we actively want to sign anyone else enough either.

This is all a bit reactive to an opportunist chance by spurs because they lost players. Push come to shove though, they won't pay up.

I think he will push it. It’s World Cup year and the rumblings in Brazil are there is an opportunity on the wing which can be his.

Brazilian players dream of playing for Brazil, Tottenham can offer him guaranteed starting position we can’t. Brazil are in transition there’s opportunity there for him to take that position.

It’s country over club for Brazilian players talk about the honour of wearing the Brazil shirt etc.

I disagree.

Not everything claimed in the papers has to he gospel.

What happens when Maddison is back. Or Spurs sign Ezze as well. It by no means guaranteed he would have a starting place. Even if it was, is one year worth the next 4 or 5?

It is clear he might be tempted by the move, but I don't think he is daft to push it. People are reading their own insecurities into that.

At the end of the day, the only comment attributed to our club so far was that he was not for sale and that they consider that closed. Maybe part of that is to do with the fee spurs suggest, maybe part of it is savinho being happy to be here.

Based on last season, there is possibly only Gvardiol worthy of his place. This is part of the issue with judging individuals when the collective is really the dial-turner. So, whether they are good enough, or not, is yet to be able to be determined, IMO, but I am someone who relishes the journey. In a cohesive whole, and I think we will witness that as various points this season, I believe that our wingers will begin to hit better numbers. We are, as a fanbase, very critical of our wide players though, and let's not forget that both Mahrez and Sterling received pelters here from many posters.

The other issue is that there will be no academy player 'good enough to play for an elite club competing for trophies.' We have to allow room for player development, or consign ourselves to paying top-dollar, and closing pathways.

Bobb will be in the squad fighting for a place.

He performed way better than everyone bar Gvardiol, Haaland, Marmoush, Nico O'Reilly and possibly Nuñes and Kovacic.

Top assister in the team.
Truly don't understand why people aren't seeing his potential. He had a pretty damn good year in with a team in flux and was only 20 years old. Tons of talent. No way in hell I'd sell him to another PL team or anywhere unless ridiculous money is being offered.
