Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

It’s crazy the way some people turn on a player the moment they’re linked with a move away.

To read comments like he’s the worst player in the squad or his finishing will never improve is utter shite. Most of the time people would be encouraged by a 20 year old moving to the PL and being the top assister in the league over the likes of KDB and Foden etc.

He has everything in his locker to get 20+ G/A next season and I wonder what his market value would be then.

Thing is, his output was dreadful last season. He was weak, he complained, he got bullied. He spent more time waving his arms at the crowd to gee them up than contributing to G/A.

Also, I feel like finishing is instinctive. You either know where the onion bag is or you don't. And he doesn't. You see his miss against Palermo? Absolutely horrendous.

Savinho is pure frustration, he was last season anyway. One goal is an absolutely shit return no matter if it was his first season in the prem. I'm sure Rodrygo would at least double that number if he were to sign
This. Plus most/nearly all of his assists were just side passes to the edge of the box. Great dribbler and defo seemed to be improving pre season/CWC (not including final game) but I’d have Rodrygo any day over him personally

There are players that work in some setups, against some teams, and don't in others.

Sav had a great season at Girona yes, but wasn't that predominantly playing on the left? It was certainly in a team that didn't come up against a low block of ten regularly.

A lot of these teams are happy to let the wide players advance because they've got no space when they get near the box. That helps some of his stats look great. No other team faces what we face, so the only real comparison I'd make analytics wise is with Doku.

Doku

Savinho

One more.... From the above it suggests that Savinho has similar data to Adams Traore... I can't remember him having any impact at all last season.

Load of bollocks.

This is pure conjecture; but when Bernardo said about 'who you'd want to go to war with', I got a sneaky feeling Savio might be one of the people he was referring to.

Heard from people around the club - friends of friends as well - (not going to drop anyone in it) that he's an arrogant so and so as well.

I thought he looks like he’s arrogant. I’m with Pep I don’t like that.

Yeah, the only reason the club is even willing to sell him is because the profit is too good to turn down for what currently isn't a top, top player. We bought a €45m player for about €25m last year and have the opportunity to sell him for €70m now before he is crucial for our team. On paper this is great business, but it absolutely a calculated risk that we can reinvest to make the squad better.

Anyone that think we are selling because Savinho isn't talented enough, or that someone at the club have seen enough already and knows he won't develop into a great player is beyond delusional. We will happily take the money but will be conpletely aware of the fact that Sav could turn into an absolute world-class winger at any point. The board seems intent to offset this by reinvesting in a Rodrygo that should be able to produce world-class performances consistently as early as next season.

Personally I'd preferred if Doku went but we would have struggled to book a profit for him. It is all educated guesdes at the end of the day

Agree with this. I feel the club has been a bit blindsided with this and Spurs are approaching him at the perfect time for them.

At the end of the day, if a players wants out and the club receive a good fee then they move on. It’s part of football.

It does pose a bigger question though of how we keep our potential superstars in the future though. You’d expect Savinho to be central to Spurs future and Palmer is currently leading Chelsea to success.

I’ll admit that I’m being blinded to an extent of what Palmer has gone on to achieve but I’d be inclined to reject the Spurs bid and keep Savinho for at least as other year.

Let’s face it, his numbers won’t be worse than last year which means we’ll easily recoup at least £30 million next summer if he doesn’t improve. If he does improve then we made the correct decision to keep him.

It’s a £30 million gamble really but when we’ve got a £30 million defender and £100 million midfielder out on loan and a £50 million midfielder who will never kick a ball for us again, it’s a gamble worth taking.

The output of all our wide players was dreadful last season. If it was just Savinho underperforming I’d be worried but when Doku, Grealish and Foden all produce shocking stats as well, it seems to me the issue was more tactical. With the transfer market we’ve had I’d expect to see a completely different City this season.

Also most 19/20 years struggle with the pace and strength of the PL at first. That’s nothing new. If he’s still getting bullied in 12 months time it might be an issue but we can’t be writing 20 year old kids off for that.

If we're not going to replace him with a better player - then a pointless sale.
Not his biggest fan, but rather we kept him.
On the basis we have 5 or 6 attacking midfielders, various of which would happily start on the right. Phil Foden included. I don't see a problem in cashing in. To me it just means one of Marmoush, Cherki, Foden doesn't sit on the bench. He (Savinho) started a load of games last year as Foden lost his form. But I can see him losing his place this year. I'd sell him even if we don't get Rodgo.
