Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Why? I don't get this idea that either the transfer fee or salary for a keeper should be any less than any other player. It's the Graham Souness attitude that a keeper who makes a world class save is just doing their job, but if a midfielder misplaces a pass it's one of those things

If we think Donnarumma is good enough to be a starter in a team pushing for PL and CL every season, why shouldn't he be on the same wages as our first choice midfielders or strikers?

It`s just not the position that gets paid that much mate?

It's quite a high salary for GK

Utter bollocks.

You don’t go into a negotiation as the selling club and go “well, here’s the lowest we’ll accept (25m) but it’d be lovely if you if you could be a love and go 10m higher and give us 35m”.

Dawson is one of the biggest dickheads in the media.

I think you could be wrong :) if Trafford is number one i think we could be in the shit, he might end up world class but its early days yet..
It is early days, my preference would still be keeping Ederson for a year and deciding what we need next summer. If Ederson wants to go though it is what it is.

Which is all the more impressive given he’s operating in a ferociously competitive field!

I do think the club wanted to keep Ederson for another year , but then Donnarumma didn’t sign a new deal meaning an opportunity opened in the market.

Feel it’s similar to Ruben Dias. We were after Koulibaly all summer then Benfica failed to qualify for the champions league so then we could get Ruben in the market.

He is, that's why he's more suited to reporting on the national team instead

Why not? It's a crucial position. He's one of the best in the world, I don't see why he wouldn't expect to be paid accordingly.
It's the same attitude that clubs won't pay big release for managers but will happily spends tens of millions on players a manager asks for

Crucial is exactly correct.

is it just me or press completely messing up net salaries and gross salaries here? isnt he on net 10m eur per year currently at PSG? (seen even higher amounts)
that would be 8.6m in GBP net. Not sure what tax paid exactly but imagine quite high so isnt that like 350K-400K per week in gross salary?
So even 250K a week is a serious drop for him of course we can sweeten the deal with a high signing fee, high agent fee, and various sick bonuses.

No way he`s getting that from us imo. The transfer fee is fine but we wont pay a keeper that much.
Other reports are saying 12 a year so 200k, going to be in that sort of range. I think thats what he's being paid at PSG.

He's a great player and they cost money. We have most of Jack's wages of the books (somehow) and Kev was on big money.

I guess as well we are going ti spend less on the transfer than you would think.

Absolutely bang on mate. Ederson has ALWAYS been the same type of keeper. Amazing with his feet, good to very good elsewhere. The key thing was, those attributes fitted perfectly with our style of play. But last season, the team changed the style of play (albeit unintentionally), this meant that Ederson looked out of place at times and was exposed.

The question going forward is, does Ederson no longer fit our style of play? if Pep is looking to be more attacking and risk even more counter attacks, then maybe he doesn't. But that doesn't mean he isn't the keeper he always was. He still deserves our respect.
I think once we lost the ability to keep the ball for long periods due to aging legs injuries to key players Ederson ended up having to do a lot more than previous seasons, this has exposed his weaknesses
More. Not his fault I suppose as he has a ceiling on shot stopping, if we go into this season in any similar situations at the very least we will have someone who can improve things like one on ones and physical presence. As for playing out from the back eddies not been 100% with that either last season. All this being said if he stays I guess I’m fine with that aswell as he has been brilliant over the years and I guess Trafford will get more game time aswell.

Sore throat is worth 50k a week, the shits are a bit more at 60k a week.

Wasn't De Gea on 375k at the Rags on like 3-4 years ago? Wouldn't be that unfathomable for a goalie of Donnarumma's quality
I don't think we should be using the kind of salaries the rags throw at players as the benchmark!

But Donnarumma is widely regarded as one of the best in the world in his position. So with that pedigree comes a top level wage, whatever that number will be.

It only comes in if other teams are willing to pay him that salary. If we are the only club interested, we’ll offer less and he’ll have to take it unless he sits out the last year of his contract.

I don`t understand the ridiculous comments ref how much a goalkeepers salary should be compared to players in other positions.
He, irrespective of who he is, is one of the 3 players who make up the spine of the team and is just as important as the other 10 players, so I`ll let the powers that be make that decision on how much they think he should be paid and not all the other non accountants from Blue Moon.
