Sudden influx of toxic City fans

There is an old bloke that sits behind me who hasn't managed to rearrange the few braincells he has into accepting we have progressed since the dark days, and he's the most negative person I know.

Most of the players are donkeys with lead boots, but we let him get on with it, and he does make us laugh from time to time.

I'm not on any social media platform, so other than that, I've no idea.

Mother fucker. That’s the first thing that came to my mind and I was going to post the same.

It really isn’t a new or ‘sudden’ thing.
It’s not a new thing but social media amplifies it 300%. I had an “oh shit yeh right” moment a couple of weeks ago when 2 posters called me out for being a know it all and arrogant/patronising. It was in the cricket thread. Now, I’m an ex county 2nd XI player and semi pro’d in local leagues, playing with and against players like Ambrose, Mushtaq, Paul Taylor, Imran Tahir, Phil Defreitas etc etc. I thought everyone needed to know my opinion on the recent test series and that I knew far more than anyone on here because I’m really knowledgeable and no one on bluemoon could possibly question my comments. I was totally wrong. This was a result of being on twitter for a year - losing 2/3/4 hours a day aimlessly flicking through my feed, where everyone is such an expert. I’m not an expert - and neither is anyone else on twitter. I and those on there are not that important. Twitter does that to people. I’ve not been on it for over a month and have given myself a talking to and feel so much more myself - a high functioning autistic who loves to be helpful, liked by people and generally a good laugh. I lost myself and became angry. I recon 90% of smart phone users are addicted to them and even though I have drastically lessened my use, I’m still flicking through bluemoon at 1am whilst I’m on holiday in Morocco reading a negative feed on here. I recon this is why bluemoon is becoming a bit unbearable and I don’t come on half as much as I used to. People are angry, know it alls. That was probably always the case but there is no hiding place anymore. I’ve ordered a Nokia old style phone while I’ve been away and will use that for most of the day and give myself 60 mins max on my iPhone. If everyone did that then the world world calm itself the fuck down!!!

Isn’t that more a reflection on the X platform in its current guise, & the polarised nature of society these days?
I haven’t been on for over 2 years since I deleted it from my life.
Any toxic morons I come into contact with on Threads just get blocked now.

This. Its X/Twitter. It is full of toxicity. Mindless toxicity either with politics, sports or celebrities. And everything is fueled to drive engagement. I do see this alot with so-called City groups on X. Like another poster wrote, if someone misses a pass or they don't track back or a shot is missed. And the crucifixion is on. Most of it is centered around Gundogan, Ederson, Bernardo and yes, even Debruyne. The best thing to do is not click on any of it. I'm thinking of leaving X because its just a toxic swamp of cheap, hurtful takes.

Thinking of leaving? Just the thought of legends being slagged off in public by should be enough for any City fan to fuck that site off.

Don't go on X then, I don't. Full of know nowt morons who I never get worked up about because I have fuck all interest in reading their dullard drivel.
Yep. Just don't go to places you know you're not gonna enjoy yourself. It really is that simple........

....hang on, I was watching City managed by Ball and Pearce!!!!

Forget what I said... I'm an unreliable sauce!! :/

I’ve got a younger brother half my age and last year he proper seen his arse because we were not winning every week and out of most competitions early on I told him to get a fuckin grip a few times but then realised all he’s ever known is us win win win and like it or not a lot of that generation are entitled

I’ve said it before, but as it’s on topic, I’ll say it again … you should be able to see on here who are seasoncard holders or even have membership numbers and put their money up to support the club. Of course there will be genuine supporters who, for whatever reason, do not attend matches but I for one would like to know if the poster actually goes to any games. It would certainly help flag up any bogus posters who are out to stir shit up.
It is an interesting idea, and there would be an upside in being able to debate a match at times with somebody who actually went to it, rather than read about it and then decided to slag everybody off. Unfortunately however I am pretty sure that what you suggest would breach GDPR rules, and place quite a data protection burden on BM. Perhaps a start would be to have a dedicated post match thread for people who self identify as members. Obviously people could lie, and contribute anyway, but I actually think that the real toxic idiots don’t want to interact on a limited basis anyway, they want to spew bile at the widest audience possible.

I believe Bluemoon to be compromised by Man Utd and Liverpool fans. I intend to reduce my activity on Bluemoon because I have started to regard many users with suspicion.

City fans need a place to discuss football but the internet isn't friendly. Anonymity encourages sociopathic behaviour. A solution is to create private space. Perhaps Manchester City could host this for matchday members.

Other football clubs host message boards. They could verify usernames through a log-in process open only to match-day members.

We’ve always had some very angry Blues. That seems to have increased with higher expectations of winning trophies and the way tickets are transferred.

I think the solution to a lot of the ticket transfer issues is to buy the match day membership. The cost of the membership card is offset by the reduced match day ticket prices (that were excessive and still too pricey fo some Blues).

I have spoken in favour of the face value ticket pages many times as a means of getting affordable tickets without having to have the match day membership. City’s admin / management have decided those days are coming to an end. That said, I wouldn’t have seen the Gillingham play off final without membership card. They aren’t new developments.

I’m a match going fan of 50 years and have a season card in the East Stand, fwiw. It was not alway easy being a Blue in Stretford but we were always proud of the lads. I’ve been in Leeds a long time now and everyone hates Man U.

It’s social media, if you now can’t have a tug in secret these days then why the hell can they not do the same with social media accounts. Being faceless gives them the opportunity to be abusive and it isn’t just city fans. It’s idiots from all over the world

I think it's a bit too tinfoil hat to suggest they are bots put in place by the Red Cartel.

They're not City fans at all, not even toxic City fans.

They're just copying the Goldbridge model of saying outlandish and controversial stuff on social media to generate views, clicks and comments for the revenue.

Some maybe bots, but lots definitely are human.

You only need to look at some of the reactionary, clueless and nasty comments that get posted on here by actual city fans in a relatively well moderated forum to realise that taking away moderation and any common sense (you get in a forum) will lead to absolute carnage on X and other social media platforms.

Totally. Attention seeking wankers. Almost as bad as those that treat the bollocks that they produce seriously.

You can. Just read their contributions. It's fucking obvious who are match-attending and/or genuine City fans.

Is it not possible that this sudden influx of toxic, moronic City fans on social media is mostly just bots financed by the red cartel to unsettle our fanbase and players?

I’m not normally one for conspiracy theories but their arrival was very sudden, very loud and very poisonous.

I’m obviously not referring to Blue Moon, but mostly to those on social media, especially X, as there is pretty much the same number of fools on here as there’s always been.
Isn't X always toxic ?
