It's Quiet the £250m return

I’d be ok with that, but our one glaring gap in the squad would remain unaddressed - which is a mistake, in my opinion.

Donnarumma for Eddie and Rodrygo for Savinho brings very little net gain - we’re essentially swapping like for like, and whether the new two are any better than the old is debatable.

But the gap at RB will still be a problem for us irrespective of these moves - and will be targeted by our opponents.

Donnarumma and Rodrygo aren’t going change that.

I’d be far happier if we kept Eddie and Savinho, and brought in a proper right back.

This is exactly my thinking. There's not a massive gain to bringing Rodrygo and Donna in for Sav and Eddie, it's sort of like for like. Both will be on bigger wages as well, especially Rodrygo.

As long as they are shiny new toys though @richards30 is happy.

I think they're both quite major upgrades.
Ederson has been on the way down for a while now, whilst we'd be replacing a decent prospect in Savinho with proven high-level quality.

Like I've said, there's pros and cons to both. Donnarumma is a better shot stopper but is no where near as good as collecting crosses or with his feet as Ederson.

Rodrygo, although he has more experience I wouldn't say he's lit La Liga up for Madrid? Patchy form. Sav has the potential at only being 21 to really kick on in the next couple years and become better than Rodrygo is at 24.

Overall, just not really arsed either way what happens. Don't think it majorly strengthens us swapping the two out for the others.

One still has to allow for the player moving to a new country, league, and system. No matter their individual quality, players rarely clear all three hurdles without difficulty, meaning even if the player is an ‘upgrade’, in their first season, they might not be so clearly better than the player they replace.

I certainly think going for donnarumma is not a good idea but it’s just me. The last 6 months he was extremely good , yeah. But before those 6 months PSG was thinking about other keepers since the Benzema ballon d‘or season where they lost 2-3 after being 2-0 in front at the bernabeu.
I really hope he somehow ends up at United

I thought after Trafford & Nypan we were done bar outgoings, I'm getting dizzy trying to keep up now.
Let’s put it this way, we could in theory over the next couple of weeks see McAtee, Rico, Eddie, Savio, Ortega go and then possibly even a couple like Akanji and Gundo as I’d guess they are the two most likely at risk of not getting minutes.

Then Donna and Rodrygo would seem the most likely two to replace Eddie and Sav.

You’d then assume we’d be well positioned to find a right back.

Perish the thought but when Pep mentioned the extended Saudi deadline the name 'Kova' sprang into.my grey matter. A late late swap shop perhaps - unlikely but would put the tin hat on this spree.
That’s exactly what might happen imo, it’s not like he’s laid up with a serious injury, it was a routine op and he will be able to pass a fitness test. I think we keep him if Gundo goes, but who knows, Viana could be ultimately ruthless and shift them both and try and bring in a replacement like Paqueta, lol.

Agree

And he's used to play against cannon fodder not having anything to do except during 10 CL games per year, not sure he can be focused 180mn per week during a whole season

If Rico Lewis goes surely we have to get a right back in

It would leave:

Nunes - not the best
Stones - Injury prone and we want him at centre half
Akanji - injury prone and not very good at right back
Khusonov - great defender and for me he is the one to fill in there but he cant play the attacking role so very unlikely.

Our options at right back would be very limited

Viana rabbit from the hat incoming I reckon.

I could see us getting a similar type of player to Lewis that is more accustomed to the RB role, hence the links to Acheampong at Chelsea. I think if there was a viable option to sign a starting level RB this summer we would have explored it. We didn’t even ever bid for Livramento.

What’s this Chelsea guy like isn’t he a bit of CB so surely not very similar to Lewis

Sorry I meant in terms of age & potential as opposed to game.

So we’d get a project player as such and Nunes would be our 1st choice.

If the above materialises in the 2 weeks left I'll be astounded.
I realise we did decent business pre the cwc, but to have reached this stage still looking to shift 6/7 isn't a great look (and Lewis/Sav seem to have come from nowhere in the last few days)
Yes we have to accept you've got to find clubs interested, and some players will be happy to sit on their wages - but even so you'd think the phone would be burning now the number of calls we should be making to move players on

But total bs. Like for like lol
Like for like in terms of is Donnarumma really overall that much better than Eddie? I just think we have to be careful bringing someone in who is awful with the ball at his feet.

I've already explained I don't think Rodrygo is that much of a step up from Savinho to sell him on with all the potential he has. But yeah if he wants out I'd get rid.

I just don't see them as massive upgrades on what we have.

Why would you want him to end up at the rags when he would be an obvious improvement on Onana?
