Wolves (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Poor referring decisions happen to every team. Bournemouth could have had a player sent off for handball against Liverpool, whilst a week prior Liverpool got bailed out by VAR/referee ignoring their blatant handball against Palace.

You're talking about individual decisions. I'm talking about a full match performance. They're ALWAYS against us

I wasn’t happy with the team. Marmoush on the bench was madness and Dokus inclusion and then performance proved me right on that front. After half an hour we looked great. Very happy with the new signings and Nico too. People can be upset at the team without it being a big deal, we won, the man who gets paid millions to make them decisions was justified. End of. We looked great in the end but Wolves are shite though and they still got in and behind a few times. I don’t think we needed to be full strength or on top of our game to beat them and I worry for them this season, the proof will be in the pudding in the next games, all against teams that beat us last season.

With Rodri, Foden, Marmoush etc in the wings it’s exciting and a great start. Can’t get carried away, we was unbeaten the first 13 games last season. Up the blues

Reijnders is a happy soul. He never seems to stop smiling and that may be infectious. Bobb looked very happy yesterday as well. Don't get too excited though Khus has a permanent scowl that would curdle milk at 100 yards bless him.

I do agree with you though. They looked together and enjoying life. - great to see. I think I enjoyed the game yesterday more than anything I watched last season.

Yes, you raise a point on reflection. Scoring goals brings a smile to us as fans, sure. BUT, seeing the players happy brings a whole different element to fan happiness and that, in the main, was what made me at a higher level of happiness; happy for the players.

Seems like they've got each other's backs.

I've never been a Lewis fan, but that's probably because I didn't think he was good enough for the peak City team.

It's easy to forget how young some of these lads are.

That cross was not as easy as it looked, and it was striking how happy the rest of the team were for him - I'd read into that that the players don't seem to think that he's any sort of liability, maybe? The makings of a good squad player?

Doku is another I'd never wanted near the team - until the CWC, when he seemed far more dangerous and productive. Like a different player, almost. Then that 'performance' yesterday. Strange backwards step.

Ait Nouri was obviously under instruction to stay back yesterday, it was right in front of us in the first half and very obvious. Consequently Doku would usually have 3 men in front of him when he had the ball, he’s good but not a magician, lol. On the other side Bobb was fine as Rico was coming inside and outside and they underestimated Bobb which worked out nicely for us.
Yes, good assessment. I'm very excited about Oscar Bobb, it's like having another new signing for me. Anybody who watched last year's pre-season tour in the US would have seen how good he was, and with him in the side we might have even been in contention. We just lost too many players at one time, but to have two players that good out for the season would affect any club.

Reijnders looks like he could fill the De Bruyne gap, and then some, and I think Khusanov may end up at right back. With Rodri yet to come back and a lot more to come from the likes of Cherki and Marmoush I'm really excited for this season. I know people are saying it was "only Wolves", but they've beaten us 3 times in recent seasons and how often do you see a 4-0 away win in the PL?

Only problem is I haven't even mentioned any of the existing players (pre-January). The squad is far too big now and even if we could afford it, top players re not going to want to sit on the bench or not even make the squad and I think quite a few are going to have to go.

Interesting. I've always rated both players, Lewis always seems very committed and I don't think he gets enough protection. It's always going to be tough to look good in a team that consistently wins trophies, you don't just have to be good, you have to be the best and that's going to take time for them to develop.

As for Doku I've never understood why some think so poorly of him. It's clear that he always ties up at least two defenders every time he has the ball so he's taking players out of the game, and we don't use that strength enough. He needs better movement from those in the middle, he can't be expected to beat 2-3 players, get to the line and put in a perfect cross when there are another four defenders between him and our nearest attacker but that's what consistently happens. I think that will improve now we have more players with pace going forward, such as Marmoush, Reijnders and Cherki.

He didn't get a lot of service yesterday, there was definitely a bit of a disconnect on the left side of midfield but that could be partly due to the way the opponents play, and it will be different every match. I think too many expect them to provide the same quality of service every match but that's never going to happen, people need to be more realistic.

Don't worry about Khusanov, look at his back history. He's a fantastic player that we've yet to see anything even close to the best of. I genuinely believe he's going to be a world class defender. We've made some great new signings this year and I believe he's one of the best of them.

Doku is a handful but he could be even more effective if he took someone on now and again. Am sure it's instructions and ball retention focussed tho.

The movement in midfield now should create some more fruitful spaces. Saw that with Erl yesterday, he was a lot more mobile as there was space to operate in.

A year on and the Bobb fan club are going to be proved right.

I said nothing about his ability mate. Just his sunny disposition.

I didn't see too much wrong yesterday apart from the appalling decision to give a corner after 2 players clattered Lewis into the hoarding just before half time, and Doherty committing four bookable fouls before finally getting a card.
