Wolves (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Watching Bobb again, it's uncanny how, with players doubling- and tripling-up on him, he's able to draw them in, stay calm and at the last moment just dink it between them.

This obviously means space elsewhere and once we start to anticipate the gaps we could be really scary going forward.

So good to see players not afraid of trying things that might not come off - and when they do, like Reijnders run for the first goal, that can only encourage the others to join in.

Erm - not you, though Dias! :-(

They / we aren't. When do we ever get a fair refereeing performance?

Name me one, just one.
What's up now? We've got off to a flyer and we're looking in great shape for this season and people are whinging already. Even if it were true there's not much we can do about it, it's hardly hampered us that much in the past decade or so has it?

Nice to see all the doom mongers and the "I’m not happy with that side" brigade proven comprehensively wrong by both Pep and the players.
Yup.. As the game developed there were several pointers to the new squad direction, with some encouraging individual performances throughout the team.

Best performance for me was from Reijnders. As I watched it unfold and with reference to his name, I was reminded of a Spanish phrase, 'No te rindas' (or in Pep's Catalan, 'No et rendeixis'!) which translates to 'Don't give up'. So far, Reijnders and all the new lads don't strike me as 'giver-uppers'!

Bit of a stretch to make the connection, I'll give you, but 'Don't give up' should be the watchword that the doom-mongers et al on the 'Match Day' thread would do well to adopt..!

I haven't been this excited for a few seasons now. We have pace going forward and instead of the tippy-tappy stuff all the time we look as though we can really frighten teams like we used to do a few years ago. I can see this team banging 5 or 6 in quite regularly again. Sure, we might concede a few but how many teams are going to be capable of scoring more against us than we score against them?

I didn't see too much wrong yesterday apart from the appalling decision to give a corner after 2 players clattered Lewis into the hoarding just before half time, and Doherty committing four bookable fouls before finally getting a card.
That corner decision was awful and the ref should be asked to watch it again today and if he believes his decision is correct, should be stood down from any form of football for life.

Every 50/50 to wolves. Our players booked after one tackle. We had more yellow cards than wolves in nearly 50% less fouls...
Corner for City at the end of the first half, ref blows for half time. Corner for Wolves at the end of full time, he lets them take it.

I just look at the way our players react to be honest

100% spot on, my exact thoughts. Sad that this section is 50 pages long when we lose a match. If you're not going to get behind a squad as exciting as we have now then you're watching the wrong sport.

They need to just shut up and enjoy it for once, otherwise what's the point? There's plenty more to moan at in life.

The movement in midfield now should create some more fruitful spaces. Saw that with Erl yesterday, he was a lot more mobile as there was space to operate in.
Much more fluid, enabling Erl to not always be the most advanced player and come onto the ball, like he was able to for his second.

I can't remember many situations like that, throughout the whole of last season.

Really enjoyable game of football, so many positives but easy to get carried away.

I remember enjoying Chelsea away last year thinking we’re going to win 5 in a row!

Spurs will be a proper proper test next week.

I have some concerns about Alt-Nouri defensively, wolves put in 3 or 4 good crosses from his side, hoping he’s just not up to match speed yet as going forward he’s beautiful.

Great way to start the season. Reijnders looks a bargain and Haaland looked back to his imperious best.

Brilliant performances throughout the team and I'm very happy the likes of Akanji and Gundogan stayed on the bench.

If we can bring in Donnarumma, a right back and a goal scoring winger we could be in for an excellent season.
Not sure there's much in the Donnarumma rumours given that we've just paid out 30-odd million for Trafford, which isn't a cheap sum for a relatively unproven keeper. I won't complain if we do, I've believed for a while that Donnarumma is the best keeper in the world at the moment, would be gutting for Trafford though but I can't see it happening now.

Wolves fouling at every opportunity first half, play acting, time wasting = no card.

TJ second half, innocuous foul = booked.

Penalties not given that would be awarded to Dips/ Rags/Arse ( see game letter for example) whilst 98% of the time Erl/ Doku etc tripped or shirt pulled in the box, move on, nothing to see here, no penalty review needed.

It happens too often to be a coincidence. We won convincingly yesterday, but so often where a game is in the balance refs are the oppositions 12th man
.
Look at the Fa cup final last season as the latest in a long line. Ref was same bloke. They've all got agendas driven by pigmob to stop us and keep the cartel relevant.

I'm still waiting for you to quote me a fair reffing performance.

Rule 15.2: it is an offence for a Manchester City player to allow himself to be mugged on (or off) the pitch.

Bizarre that some fans can't see it

There were periods early in the game when I think we were nervous and not in full control.
I've been watching this sport for 60 years and I can't remember watching too many matches where one team was in full control for 90 minutes. I didn't see any nervousness but even if there was, it's to be expected in a team with several players making their PL debut, an untried and untested XI at this level. That will come with more game time. End of the day we won 4-0 away, not many teams score 4 away throughout the season, we did so on day one. How many teams are there that are going to be better than we are? That's all that matters.

Usual stuff yesterday. Team that puts in more tackles and fouls more gets fewer yellows. And we always get the first. I wish I could bet on it.

The one where strand Larson kicked bobb in the knee to stop a counter attack was the worst. Definite yellow

They definitely targeted him.

This might become a regular theme - I do think that other coaches will be looking at his poor positional sense.

Really exciting going forward - but it looks like we may not be short in that department anyway...

I just don't get why you bother watching the game if you think it's that bad. Maybe some do feel a bit sorry for the opposition or something and try to even things up a bit, but we've broken countless records with what this club has done over the past few years so if there is an agenda it clearly isn't working very well is it? Get over it and enjoy the positives.
