Glad I wasn’t the only one noticing it.

I thought the same vs Al Hilal and he did nothing yesterday to put me at ease.

He looked a bit more comfortable when marmoush came on and he didn’t have to go inside as much but by that point wolves were dead and buried.

There was definitely a measure of 'leveling up' in the refereeing performance.
Rico still needs to keep his head together though, he was having a great game so I suspect he was brought off as Pep saw he was letting them wind him up which is a bit of a shame really but was probably the right decision.
 
pretty pleased with that start as I thought we were going in even more under-cooked than normal due to lack of matches

Team was decent, couple of surprises and I get the people not happy about Cherki not starting but if the gossip is true of a bit of a knock during the week along with not going fully offensive 1st game of the season away from home it kind of made sense to me. He will get plenty of minutes and looks class

defence looks so much better with Stones, Dias had his usual dodgy pass to put us in trouble but also did a great block
Alt-Nouri was targeted, he seems to play inside alot and could be exposed but covered loads of ground and will be a big plus offensively.

Excellent performances from Reijnders, Bobb and Nico. Thought Haaland was more dynamic and will get better when all on same wavelength. Bernie was decent, again covering the ground well

Rico had a great game, full of running and some good touches and showed he has good technical ability, not sure how this will progress with Forest but he made a point.

We have players that can carry the ball forward, Reijnders little pass over the top opening the space to get past the block from out wide

I was pleased to see Trafford back, Ederson has been awesome for us but form has tanked last season, I'd got to the point that I was surprised when he saved a shot rather than being surprised it had gone in

all in all a good 1st day, just need 37 more
 
Keep thinking about all the positives from yesterday but a big one is 3 academy graduates starting and being some of the top performers on the pitch. For all the frustration about Rico (I'm his biggest fan but I get the RB criticism to an extent) and the talk of bringing in donnarumma, I much prefer have a couple of local players starting regularly. Also not forgetting Nico O coming on for meaningful minutes in the 8.
 
as well as all the many other positives,
it was a great pleasure to see our collective hunger to just win the fucking ball back as soon as possible.
 
I think there’s something very distasteful about wolves fans. I went yesterday with my 2 lads, fourth year running at Molyneux and I actually told my youngest not to wear his City shirt yesterday because he’d had shit there after the match the previous 3 years when he was 13, 14 and 15. Not had any mither at any other ground in that time, always wolves. I’ve had a strike recently and just wanted to avoid any of that shit yesterday and fortunately did.

What also struck me yesterday was the utterly two faced nature of the wolves fans. I distinctly recall Diogo Jota getting booed there when he went back with liverpool and I googled it this morning and lo and behold an article from Stephen Warnock in December 2021 noting Jota had every touch roundly booed by the wolves fans. Now I get the tribute yesterday, I obviously joined in the applause for him as did my kids and every other Blue as far as I can see. I also get the fact that it was more intense yesterday as he used to play for them. But the constant Diogo, Diogo, once a wolf always a wolf (I think that’s what they were singing, hard to tell with that accent), but no lads, get it right, you loved him when he played for you, but you booed the fuck out of him when he’d left you, but now he’s died (which is very very sad) don’t forget how you treated him like shit when he left you, not like some sort of long lost and dear beloved son.

I was in it and thought It was quiet in our end, always is at wolves, it’s that long thin end problem (ooh er missus) - you can see a chant getting going at one end but it never reaches the other end.

Went yesterday and to me it never felt nervous. We're not a team that is set up to own the ball anymore. Subsequently it won't feel as comfortable as it was. Wolves aren't very good but it was still a competitive PL match which we won by 4 away from home.

I won't complain if we do, I've believed for a while that Donnarumma is the best keeper in the world at the moment, would be gutting for Trafford though but I can't see it happening now.
