Wolves (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Ok.
That seems plausible, but surely it is possible to determine whether the shot would have been on target or not?
I don't know. Maybe there's some rule I'm unaware of; the ball having to reach the goal line. Plus, if an attacker is taking a shot from 25 yards out, and a defender blocks it from a couple of feet away, can anyone be definitely sure what the trajectory of the ball will be?

Opinions don't have to be so polarised, though - for instance when I saw the lineup I was disappointed not to see Marmoush there (I want him and Erl to play together as much as possible) and Lewis raised an eyebrow, too (though he obviously did really well, but we're talking without the benefit of hindsight).

At the same time, however, it was really encouraging to see that Pep was definitely embracing the new wave of players. Exciting to start the season like that.

So not everybody on here is either a 'fanny-wipe' or a 'happy clapper', to use those overworked phrases.
100%. Im not saying i put on ignore all the posters I argue with. On the contrary, the very essence of a forum is the exchange of views and opinions, discussion, and the clash of arguments. What I mean are people who quite regularly react in an extremely emotional and aggressive way towards the club, Pep, the players, etc., even though they have zero arguments apart from, for example, an occasional bad series of results.

A flagship example: last season. How many people lost faith? Of course, they can genuinely believe that Pep is finished or that many individual players are. But if you use a bit of perspective, you should rather come to the obvious conclusion that it’s too early to write them off, especially after 4 straight PL titles, when we just had a worse season. And on top of that, there was no Rodri.

Speaking of Rodri, I noted at least 4 people accusing the club of not having a replacement. Zero perspective and no grasp of basic facts. Rodri got injured shortly after the transfer window closed. The club could only react in January, and it did – by bringing in Nico. Replacing Rodri is no simple matter. He won the award for the best player in the world. Still, the club tried with Phillips. Stones was also an option, but he was practically injured the entire season. Many players been in and out, so could not establish the form (Ake, Akanji, Grealish, KDB), not to mention Bobb injury or Walker's escape. So, all things considered, we actually had a decent season with 3rd place in the league and an FA Cup final.

If I see someone who can’t hold back from hating without taking basic facts into account, it’s just not worth the time.

Great way to start the season. Reijnders looks a bargain and Haaland looked back to his imperious best.

Brilliant performances throughout the team and I'm very happy the likes of Akanji and Gundogan stayed on the bench.

If we can bring in Donnarumma, a right back and a goal scoring winger we could be in for an excellent season.
I still think we're in for an excellent season regardless

Early days, but promising signs. Apart from the excellent debuts from Ait- Nouri and especially Reinjnders, the main take from yesterday was the energy and the way we counter attacked. This was evident in the 3rd goal, which was a brilliant move and a clinical finish from big Erl.

Spurs will be a lot tougher test, Frank is a good manager and I think we will have a better indication of where we are at in terms of how the team is progressing.

It genuinely felt like the whole team had decided to push into space, or take people on and glide past them.
Noticeable difference.
First goal from a byline cut back since ..jesus were a lad...well for ages anyway. When we had el mago that was our standard..threaded ball between their CH and FB..Mahrez always anticipating ...cut back
.Aguero occasionally on the end or one of our other 7 arriving late..big foot..bottom corner ..goal ( x that by about 50 a season) so hard to stop...yet we stopped trying that for a few seasons in a row..well done blues

Has anyone else noticed that there are too many direct long range goal kick from keeper. Its been a long time I have seen city's keeper do that.
May be its leinjders and toure influence on pep or may be it is our strategy to confuse opponents (if you come close and press us we will play a long ball).
It seems Slowly pep is adjusting to the tune of the premier league.
Finally after so many years pep is playing the premier league way. Keeper sending long balls...
May be the next tactics will be the typical premier league way... and ultimately others will follow.
Pep is usually 5/6 months ahead of the others. After 5/6 months other managers start copying him.

His conversations with Neil Warnock have clearly had more influence then we thought

I think there’s something very distasteful about wolves fans. I went yesterday with my 2 lads, fourth year running at Molyneux and I actually told my youngest not to wear his City shirt yesterday because he’d had shit there after the match the previous 3 years when he was 13, 14 and 15. Not had any mither at any other ground in that time, always wolves. I’ve had a strike recently and just wanted to avoid any of that shit yesterday and fortunately did.

What also struck me yesterday was the utterly two faced nature of the wolves fans. I distinctly recall Diogo Jota getting booed there when he went back with liverpool and I googled it this morning and lo and behold an article from Stephen Warnock in December 2021 noting Jota had every touch roundly booed by the wolves fans. Now I get the tribute yesterday, I obviously joined in the applause for him as did my kids and every other Blue as far as I can see. I also get the fact that it was more intense yesterday as he used to play for them. But the constant Diogo, Diogo, once a wolf always a wolf (I think that’s what they were singing, hard to tell with that accent), but no lads, get it right, you loved him when he played for you, but you booed the fuck out of him when he’d left you, but now he’s died (which is very very sad) don’t forget how you treated him like shit when he left you, not like some sort of long lost and dear beloved son.
The whole thing is mawkish. It’s sad he died but pay respects at the start and get on with it. Performative grief is awful
