I did not watch, so I am "surprised" after reading all the comments on here that the press and Rags actually thought that they played well. Well I say surprised, but I know which narrative I believe and its the one from this forum. Guy at work thinks they are definitely top 4 material after that match (in which they lost!). And this I believe is why they have been struggling - total arrogance and belief in the media and their "right" to be at the top end of the league - they can't see the actual issues they have.
Even after a decade they still don’t get it. Most of the team can’t play a one touch pass or trap the ball properly. They keep buying players who are technically sub-standard. It is bizarre how they are reported. Essentially they have no midfield so just lump it long into the channels. Ferguson used to be direct as well in a rigid 442 formation but he had great players and that was 30 years ago.

They definitely played much better than they did last season, but that should be expected with the players they've brought in and the money they've spent. Arsenal were very lucky today. They wouldn't get this lucky against us or Liverpool.

Cunha and Mbuemo are going to be great signings for the scum unfortunately. How united went unchallenged for Cunha at that price is a mystery. He could have signed for Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal. He's miles better than Madueke.

But Amorims comments about proving they can beat any side were absolutely laughable, considering they couldn't beat Arsenal who were very very poor today.
Just to pick up on a couple of points.

You say the rags played better than last season. That's hardly an endorsement. Also it was their first game of the season so you would expect them to put a bit of effort into it.

You mentioned Cunha & Mbuemo are great signings. They said exactly the same thing about Hojlund and every other forward player that has joined them since 2013.

I know it seems as though the rags should improve and challenge for European football but that assumption is based on them being a "big" club.

The reality is they're a global brand which has nothing at all to do with their football acumen.

Global brand rapidly reducing to globule.
Hehe.

They are like an actor that started out in edgy roles - hits the big time and does a couple of blockbusters - then hits the buffers - no more lead male roles and turns down comedy roles as its "beneath them" - currently struggling to get voice overs for obscure nature documentaries and does a few TV adverts for cleaning products.................

United did what that have done for the last 12 years since Taggert left and the time before he rocked up at the swamp. They get themselves up for playing the big teams, however when it comes to playing the ones that go into a low block or has someone that can play through them and finish, the same old story is repeated of them being shit.

If that game had happened to City playing Arsenal and we got our pockets picked from one of their aggressive set plays after creating chance after chance, the press would be spinning it as a Masterclass from Arteta. Happens to the rags it’s suddenly 1999 again and they are on to win the lot.

The comedy roll is all they have.

I’m never seen such glee after losing a game at home …. Weirdos
The pressure they've had bestowed on them by the raggy media to win their next game is now immense already.
Funny as fuck if Fulham turn them over, then we'll probably see the media turn on Amorim, so soon after their amazing defeat by Arsenal as well.

The reality for the rags is that no player who is coming towards his peak or at the peak of his career and playing in the champions league would sign for united.
So they’re left with high fliers from mid table teams who tend to be high fliers because of the system they play in or players who haven’t been bought by top tier teams who need that big pay day and are prepared to gamble their career.

On reflection, they attract players who would otherwise have gone to the Saudi league. Surprised they didn’t get Kingsley coman

Fulham are a decent and tidy outfit. However, United's arrogant fans and the fawning media will be expecting them to roll them over. I can easily see a Fulham win.
