Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Though Donnarumma has his merits as a keeper he feels like the sort of guy who will piss in the tent if/when he isn't playing - and I'm certain James Trafford will play at least 20 games for us this season. Talent is one thing but will this guy fit into the group? That's surely one thing City are weighing up here - the guys 26 and will expect to be 1st choice

People talk about a GK needing to be good with their feet or amazing with crosses or great at penalties or quick off the line or commanding in the box or having cat like reflexes but we don't need someone to have any of those qualities. We just need someone to stand there for 90+ minutes who's 8.5 feet tall and 24 foot wide.

It's so fucking simple really. Just maths.

Sorry if posted already...

Is Alfredo Pedullà of football Italia reliable at all?

Saying talks have progressed with PSG over last 48 hrs earlier this evening.
Romano also said few hours ago that Man City is in talks with PSG as well as Donnarumma currently despite Eddie still not being sold to Galatasaray.

Is he really that much better than Trafford ?

Well, Donnarumma is proven at the highest levels. Trafford isn't.

The question is do clubs who are looking to win champions leagues and premier leagues take a risk on a pretty unproven keeper, or do you bring one in that's been there and done it?

Trafford may well end up being a revelation, but he may well end up being a liability. The best clubs try not to take that gamble. It's a shame because you might end up with excellent players not getting the chance to really break through at the top clubs.

Ederson was proven at the highest level, key to our success, and then a liability last season. Ortega made that outstanding save to win us 4 in a row, then shat the bed to lose us an f.a cup. Donnarumma might be a liability too. Trafford might excel. It is all somewhat a gamble.

Just to point out that Donna was 22 when PSG signed him. Why can't Trafford be our number one at 22?

Of course every signing is a gamble, but that's why you mitigate the risk.

Going into a season with Donnarumma in goals is much lower risk that with Trafford in goals, and that's no disrespect meant to Trafford at all.

The risk mitigation is that you've got someone in goals who has won multiple trophies and is his countries number 1 goalkeeper; as the alternative is having someone in goals who has played one season in the Premier league and has never been capped for his country.

Sure.

But it is totally ok for me as a supporter to be happy to see the club take that risk.

If he’s good enough, why wouldn’t he be?
Donnarumma was physically much more developed at a younger age than Traff. And Milan were having an awful time at that point, struggling financially and finishing 7th in his debut season and then 6th, 6th, 5th and 6th. Is not like he was playing for some elite team.
