Its a good thing and a dog of exceptional squad planning that in the latter cases, we have identified and engaged their potential replacements already - so we aren’t left in the Kompany/Aguero situation of having no succession plan in place for absolutely critical roles in the team, as you say.

That’s what Viana is paid to do, and it seems he’s approaching it very successfully.

The fact we already have Stones’ and Ake’s potential replacements in place for next summer (Reis/Bah) is evidence of this structured squad planning.

Agreed 100%. Many (including me) were concerned that several of our ageing players were given game time during the CWC, making it uncertain what it meant for Reijnders, Cherki, Khusanov, Lewis, Bobb, O'Reilly, Reis, Echeverri & Gonzalez etc.

It seems to be emerging now that City are toughening their stance on the ageing squad members who're refusing to leave, & not a moment too soon.

We have to prioritise City's best interests, & no player/players should be allowed to derail our rebuilding process. Those tough conversations after a return to pre-season training are gonna have to get even tougher mate!

There was enough reliance on underperforming experience last year that having some worries about Pep and being too loyal is fair I think. That said, small sample size, I was pretty encouraged with how things played out against Wolves. Hopefully, that's what we see, by and large, going forward.

Not comparable with this season, and he kept going after January with a box midfield which he doesn't normally play because it was working and got us top 3.

If Akanji accepts Galatasaray’s contract today, then we will complete both the Akanji and Ederson deals and bring in Donnarumma.
Otherwise, we will have to let Aké go and keep the other two.

That makes zero sense, we would be getting rid of a homegrown player and keeping to "foreign" players. We would still need to get rid of a "foreign" player I can't see Ake going tbh, he is homegrown and can cover left back and centre back when fit, where as Akanji is foreign, can play CB and RB (but we have lots more options there than left back) so for me Akanji has to be the one that goes and if Eddie stays then thats Ok.

Hello Galaboy. Football finance in the UK is cray. Never mind Saudi, Arsenal have spent a net £0.25 Billion this Summer.

There is something odd about this transfer. The difference in valuations seems relatively small and yet the deal struggles to advance. Perhaps there is a fundamental lack of interest from Manchester City in selling the player, or there is some other reason we do not know about. When I heard that Donnarumma was available, I thought that City might sell Ederson to allow us to buy Donnarumma but nothing seems to have changed.

I think Ederson has been a brilliant player for Manchester City. Last season though he struggled and I think he has become unsettled. I would be wary about Ederson at Gala. He is average at shot-stopping. Nothing remarkable but he is absolutely brilliant at touch and control. To take advantage of that you need very good players in defence and midfield. I think he would work well in some teams and not others.

I watched Fenerbahce last night. A very boring game.

Hi mate.

Ederson’s form last season was the norm, not an anomaly. He’s a fantastic player with his strength being the ball at his feet but teams have adapted to that and we rarely see that ability other than a few long (accurate!) balls over the top. Based on that, and 32 being young for a goalkeeper, as well as his experience, history of being in winning teams and his all-round reputation as one of the best in the world in his position I’d argue that €15m is low but fair given he wants to go and his contract is due up in 12 months.

On Akanji, 2027 is only two years so his value will be lower. Plus 30 isn’t an issue now because of how well players look after themselves. Same attributes apply to him (experience etc) as they do to Ederson but without the reputation as being one of the best in the world in his position.

If you get them both, I’ll be interested to see how much each go for. Although keepers do tend to go for less than what they ‘should’.

Fair enough, I don't rate Donnarumma as highly as you do but if he does sign I hope he proves to be a hit.
