82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

No he’s not. If an option is substandard and not good enough, well then it shouldn’t be an option.

And no, he’s not getting anywhere except in the way of possible success.
The problem with forums is that it's always the most emotional and negative posters who end up being "right" regardless of whether they're actually correct because they can just whine and whine and whine until the other poster gives up and gets on with their life.

Have a nice Saturday night. Hope Rico Lewis doesn't appear in your dreams.

So who is he better than further forward in our whole squad of players with the technical ability to play there?

Bobb?
Foden?
Cherki?
Reijnders?
Nico OReilly?
Marmoush?
Doku?
Rodri
Nico

The answer is none of them. All of those players can play further forward in midfield and he is not even the same class as ANY of them in that position People trying to shoehorn him into the starting line up is absolute proof that he isnt good enough in either position.
Yes players in the past have made transitions to different positions so it can be done clearly - Rico Lewis ultimately is not good enough to do so...we have several seasons of evidence to show for this now along wih the fact that he was DROPPED for a player who isnt even a specialist fullback but ALSO isnt good enough to get into our midfield!
Just gonna tap the sign instead of typing all this shit out again.

Defensively he is found wanting too many times and his awareness of players in dangerous positions is not good enough. I still think he can be a decent squad player in a midfield role, but not at RB.

Exactly, you can add Nunes to that list, even Gundog and Kova albeit they are probably off.

You havent come up with one constructive point to disprove anything.

I have disproved what you have said

Thats why Im right
Alright mate, if it makes you happy. What you've actually done is project your own feelings about Lewis onto my post. I've said numerous times he's not a defender and will only improve if he's played further forward, where he's more comfortable. Doesn't need to start all the time, doesn't need to replace anyone long-term. He's still a kid. But players need rest and players get injured and players need rotating and Lewis can fill in when those things happen.

I don't understand this fanbase at all. We spend hours on this forum saying we need to promote more kids through the academy, play the kids more, give the kids more minutes, etc. Well, this is what you've got to get through if you want the kids to have more minutes and play more often. They've got to learn and develop and get through tough periods. Either we abandon the idea of playing academy kids and only buy ready made players or we support the kids on difficult days.

You're coming across as incredibly spoiled. As I said, negative people like yourself just whine others into submission and nothing more.

He’s listed 9 players ahead of him and I added 3 more as the squad “currently” stands, so unless a huge bout of food poising happens he should never, ever, ever find himself playing further forward as it would be at detriment to the team. Suicidal.

Simon is completely right, and you wrong.

1. I have no feelings about Rico Lewis - its an opinion. I only have feelings about people I know.

2. Im glad we agree he aint a defender which suggests he shouldnt be played there.

3. I dont disagree he is better further forward than he is defender - but if that list of players posted all get injured then that is some injury crisis that no one will ever have seen the likes. There are 9 players on that list who are all technically and physically streets ahead of Rico Lewis and if they cant get ahead of him in any game this season in midfield then they sholdnt be playing for us full stop. (and If left Gundo and Kova off the list - but one of those will at least be gone) He would only be needed as "cover" if 5 or 6 of those players were not able to play

4. Filling in - again - that is just is not what you do if you want to be successful at the top level...he has filled in today - he was possibly the worst player on the park out of 22 players plus subs - this is consistently the case against decent teams (not your cannon fodder that is Woves)]

5 He isnt a kid in terms of experience nor is he physically a kid - he is not going to get physically bigger and that is a fact and in terms of experience he has considerable already so this is just a continuous excuse trotted out for him.

6. Some fans do say promote the kids etc - Im not one of them. I hold the belief you play the best available regardless of where they come from - their is no room for sentiment at the top of any profession..that is not how you win things especially in sport. Yes sentiment plays a part in football and fairy tales are what drives part of the narrative that everyone likes...but it rarely makes winners unless that player is of an exceptional talent. In the modern football world this doesnt happen as much as clubs have a far bigger reach over the globe to get the best players - this didnt happen in the until the last 30 years and more and more teams can now do it..it means the "local lad" has to be of exceptional talent to make it and why so few do. How many young kids do you think the coaches at Man City see every year from the ages of around 6 to 8....Id wager it is 1000's and how many get taken on...and then how many make it as a % it wont even be 1%. Our academy as much as it is dressed up is a money farm as ALL clubs are. It is used to make money and every now and again a gem comes out of it that can make it at the very top (Foden) but for every one there are literally 10.000's that dont make it anywhere near and others (like McAtee being the most recent example) who ultimately could be a decent prem footballer but not at the top...this is Rico Lewis

5. Dont make the mistake of thinking its whining.....I ultimately have much more to my life than football so I dont really care that much its just a past time for me nothing more to me.

5. Its not spoilt - its just observations - that comment is a very typical response of those on here unable to defend their position so well done.

It's the other way around. Wait a few days and posts will appear praising Rico for no particular reason until most will just give up and no longer point out the obvious; he is not good enough.

Won’t ever be a starter for a top end club. He played today and was exposed. He is decent in the pockets but is physically out of his depth without the technique or game awareness to mitigate it. Simply isn’t good enough to play right back and will be the target week after week for the opposition.

Love the way some on here use the 'Pep sees something in him, and he's a better judge' etc

And yet those same people are saying he should be playing in midfield rather than right back, despite Pep playing him at right back for the majority of games that he's featured in

You can't have your cake and eat it with Rico; he's either a right back or a midfielder, and if you think he's a midfielder, then you disagree with Pep, who you seem to want to use, to back up the amount of minutes he gets

So that’s the main reason. Respectably that’s a load of rubbish. Pep clearly thinks he’s good enough

I’m sick of these so call city fans (not you) jumping to criticise our own player

If he wasn’t fucking up he’d be getting praise.

How many goals now have seen him beaten exactly how he was today? Must be at least a half dozen of those. He isn’t improving. He isn’t learning from his fuck ups.

Only mid week i said he’s backing himself and deserves praise for that, but let’s be real we can’t sustain a game against top players with no decent left back and him at right back. There’s a plain as day pattern to attack and Frank just did what they will all try to do.

We need an honest to goodness right back and Rico can play wolves level or cup games at best.
