Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

“And his [Rico Lewis’] role, when he plays his role, Rico is an extraordinary player. The only problem I have is he’s so small. If he was taller, I would say, ‘Oh, what a player.’ It’s that

Why it's damning ? Isn't he small or there is taboo to say the truth

Fact is that physicality matters, he isn't playing chess or writing code.

So if you can't say "Oh, what a player" about a player, then you can't play him in starting 11 at least, because City wants to win everything and titles are won with players about which you can say - "Oh, what a player"

Therefore, WTF Pep is doing I don't understand. Either we have changed our goals and fighting to be middle table team or players like Rico shouldn't, mustn't play for this club, doesn't matter he is from Manchester, Stockport or Mars...

There should be ruthless judgement by quality and nothing more.

There is no place for sentiments in football, if you are competing
"If he was taller I would say what a good player" - sort of says that Pep thinks he isnt a good player cause he isnt tall - which cant really be the case

I think we are on the same page here and you have just misunderstood what I posted as in my options Rico isnt good enough

Rico is young and very athletic but doesn’t have a defenders stature. Last season how many times did we all see him try to out jump a 6ft odd player and lose out?. Anyway has a midfield player he would be ok but unfortunately pep likes little players in the team which normally works really well but not in defense. Today( not singling him out) but each time he gets a start my heart sinks a little.
"very athletic", he's about the least athletic player in the league.

Keep trust in Rico till the end...

one year or two or three, eventually he will become top player..

His intelligence is pure and generational

Doesn't matter we win or loose, Rico should start every game

Because he is local kid and that's why..
if he wasn't local, maybe he wouldn't even play for u15s but he is local, therefore we have no choice..

And don't forget that RICO RICO RICO chant

Iconic player.
Icon of current City team.
Hi Rico!

A team that currently is playing as bad as it ever had in the last 10 years...

He isnt iconic....Kompany, Aguero are iconic and this was easily identifiable the moment they stepped on the pitch for the first time

Lewis is lower prem level at best.

His lack of physicality wont help him - people point to David Silva as a counter argument - correct - but David Silva had truly generational footballing intelligence...Rico Lewis isnt even playing the same game
King Dave, while hardly the Collosus of Rhodes, was tougher and much harder to disposess

I've never really understood what the hype was with him. He's been in the 1st team for 3 or 4 years now and he still doesn't have a position. I couldn't tell you what he is. He's definitely not a right back and he's nowhere near as good as some of our midfielders.

Pep seems to like him for some reason, but I just don't get him personally.

He's 20 years old for fucks sake. How many other 20 year olds have had 60 first team appearances?

The club should be signing a new right back as soon as possible so that this KID can go back to learning his trade and having his minutes managed to help his progression.

At least this lad has had the bollocks to stand up and be counted unlike that shithouse of a former captain who fucked off at the first opportunity when things got a bit tough

He's an eight imo, definitely not a right-back. Has a good future as a Gundogan type. Still at the age where he needs to be bedded in rather than started every week, but I think he could become a good squad player for us in the future. 2-3 years time.

He was fully targeted as a weakness yesterday by Tottenham. Djed Spece has even put him on his insta post, he was bullied , out fought. His position when defending was all over the place, he's not a defender and Tottenham knew that. He was targeted. In the big games he will be targeted again and again.

He's not physically strong enough and refs are not going to give him the fouls he looks for. He got fully bullied by Spence, Johnson and ever Richarlison had a go.

I can’t believe we’re putting a 5-year contract on the table for him. He’s nowhere near that standard. If we don’t move him on this summer, we’ll be tied down to his deal for years. Honestly, despite the sympathy I have for him as a homegrown player, he’s one of the weakest players I’ve seen in city for yearssss
This is it, he’s just far from good enough.

I’m not sure why maybe because he is homegrown but some people seem to take major offence to any criticism of him.

If he stays in the team we have a weak link that’s going to be targeted and exposed time and again this season.
