Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

I think Donnarumma saves Johnson's shot and doesn't make that suicidal pass for the second.
Really...?

What about stopping the shot before it becomes an issue for the keeper?

The point is we give away high percentage chances which means more or not regardless of who is in goals they go in....trafford is an excellent shot stopper...he got nowhere near it..

If we are relying on a keeper stopping those type of chances something much bigger is going drastically wrong.

What Trafford did yesterday wasn’t a mistake though. It was a school boy decision. The pass was executed exactly how he intended he should just never ever have made it when he was staring at the play. He will learn from it but it shows he’s nowhere near ready in his head for highest level. Donnarumma has won CL and European championships. Donna got caught spending too long on the ball by benzema few years ago but got any examples of him making a brain dead decision when facing the whole pitch like that yesterday?

I blame Dias and stones passing the buck to a Trafford on his home debut! He is not Ederson who has made those mistakes also!

That they are potentially wrong?

Kalvin Phillips
Keeping on persisting with Rico Lewis and not buying a right back.
Grealish - worst transfer in recent history
Nunes as a midfielder

All situations where Im sure people said Im sure Pep and the team know what they are doing/are aware ofhis ability with regards to indivdual transfers and they got it very wrong so mistakes do happen

If Pep changes the way we build our play then fine....if he dosnt it wont go the way people are hoping

This signing smells of a Galatico style signing Im afraid
Respectfully, none of those examples are really the same thing, are they?

I get the feeling that the plan was all along to get Trafford in as the reserve keeper giving Eddie one last season where James can learn off the master

This has been complicated by Ederson still being undecided and the sudden availability of Donnarumma.

I think Pep trying to persuade Ederson to stay is what is going on here

But isnt the fact that Enrique wants a different type of goalkeeper very telling that Donarumma isnt suited to that style of play despite the success they have had?
I can't believe people actually believe this.

If Donnarumma had agreed to the terms PSG offered, there would be no conversation about this transfer.

Enrique has had Donnarumma as his number one for two years, great success has followed but as soon as the lad is into his last 12mths and PSG start trying to mess around with his renewal we hear about how Enrique always wanted a ball playing keeper, Donnarumma is shit at X, Y and Z.

If Enrique cared as much about this ball playing keeper as Pep did in 2017 when he booted Hart out after a training session, he would have done so. He clearly didn't.

Enrique has just won the CL with Donnarumma a huge part of that and then decided, nah I always wanted a ball playing keeper actually.

Yes they are

We were told repeatedly when we signed Nunes and Phillips esp that Pe and the team must know their qualities even though both signings were questioned significantly on here before hand

Lots of people also questioned the signing of Grealish at the time....see how that panned out - Everton is his level

Rico Lewis as aright back inverting into midfield has been nothing short of disasterous and its there for everyone to see and now they have just given him a new transfer.....

All decsions made by the management/coaching/leadreshop team

They dont get everything right and this potential transfer is another example where it could go very wrong - there is a reason why lots of people are questioning it - as they were with all those decisions above...this is not about revisionism -people were questioning them beforehand and ever since

Enrique publicly said he wanted a differnt style of keeper so unless he is lying its there in black and white

Donnarumma in net yesterday Spurs 0
It really is that simple .
No its isnt

The first goal is a high value chance - yes they can be saved but chances say unlikely

Second one...maybe Donarumma hammers it out to the half way line...so possibly

Some of the passes were not good by allof the back 4 but they are used to playing with Ederson and muscle memory kicks in.
However the one that led to the goal is on Trafford Im afraid to say..he had other options to pass to and chose the wrong one

Change the way the keeper plays and it means our defenders have to be even better on the ball...at present out of everyone only Stones and probably Gvardiol are the level required ON the ball to adapt to a keeper who isnt

Exactly, both negated responsibility when Spur tactic was a high press all game, they could see 2 players bearing down on the 10 yard area and should have got rid rather than both pass it back to him in succession.

Trafford should have just hoofed it admittedly, but he was badly let down and tbf recovered to get down and fingers to the first atempt, where again Dias backed off the oncoming paulhino rather than go for the loose ball.

I will credit the lad he made some saves after where many a keeper would have crumbled, He need defenders that protect him especially while he settles, those writing him off after one eiffy game are dissapointing.

If we buy done a runner then so be it, but the reason. shouldn't be because of yesterday

Yeah Donnarumma saves the first goal
Then doesn’t fuck about in a packed goalmouth with piss poor passing and decision making and goes for the obvious kick up field because the opposition are effective at the high press and have us penned in because he is the best keeper in the world .

It's one of our strategies to draw the press. Trafford either needed to realise the pass wasn't on and go long or execute it perfectly - unfortunately he did neither. It was on his decision making & execution, as it's a standard part of how we beat presses.

You do realise Donnarumma biggest weakness is the ability to play with the ball at his feet ?

Stupid statement.

What part of yesterday do you think you was about ability with the feet? It was the inexplicable decision from Trafford to make that pass. He made the pass exactly as he intended to, it was just never ever on. Nothing to do with his ability with his feet. Ederson has once in a lifetime ability with his feet for a goalkeeper but he doesn’t try that pass in that position with a guy literally an inch behind him.

Yeah I think he is lying, hes pedalling what his pay masters tell him to.

You expect him to come out and say id love to keep Donnarumma but that wanker Nasser has decided to rip apart my winning formula to give me some young French lad in goal instead.

It tanks the value of Donnarumma, makes PSG look stupid and Enrique is probably looking for a new job.

You joking, why's no one mentioned this?

IF he is as bad as some think he is, id hope that if Donnarumma is in goal, he recognises the pressure and uses his experience to smash a kick into touch or to the halfway line rather than trying to do what Trafford did and play a pass to a player with several opponents on him in his own box.

Just a maybe though.

BTW, Ederson tried this one before as well;

The team seems to just collectively turn into complete idiots when we play spurs, except the couple times WE REALLLLLY needed to not fuck it up.

I don’t see how we can play like this with any keeper other than Ederson. We need to change our style and playing out from the back, otherwise we’ll have the same problems.

As i said previously. maybe donarumma smashes it upfield.

Pep is going to have to change the way we set up then as it will just bounce straight back to us if we do that...will he change?

Is he what? Better than Trafford or still here? If it's the former than yes. He's better with his feet, has more presence and experience. Trafford looked like a kid from the youth team thrown into the first team yesterday. He was the same the last time Burnley were in the premier league which is why they dropped him. As we all know these days there is a world of difference between the championship and the premier league.
