Hard To Be Here

Ironically the posters that @oldius refers to have come out in force in this thread.

I got talked out of deleting my account a few seasons back by Rick and went on a hiatus instead, the last few weeks have got me thinking that I've had enough now and if I pull the pin it'll be permanent this time.

Pep stated clearly that he expects us to be undercooked until after the first international break, so I’m not sure why people are being so reactionary about the poor performance or result

Here’s to hoping he's correct, yet again

Great story on how you became a blue. Well done for not following the glory trail(well eventually you did :) I was a kid in the 80s and up until the age of 12, I thought we were called Manchester City nil.
Oh it was hard going especially to begin with. Things are starting to change though my 14 year old son is City. And in a brilliant twist of irony my 10 year old nephew and son of my sister is a City fan, despite his mum and dad being red!

I wasn't at York away so I don't feel I've earnt an opinion :-)
Neither was I.
I was at Colin Bell's comeback game though and I asked my dad why everyone was cheering when nothing seemed to be happening. The king is back, son, he said, the king is back.

Wished I'd seen him play in the flesh was a couple of years too late.

Gosh no, I am not speaking of leaving (but thanks) - I do love it here.
I am just talking about the immediate aftermath of any dropped point - shut the lid and have done for a day.
I am drawn to the shit though - I have blocked a couple of posters recently, yet I still find myself opening the blinds, and peeking through, just to be irked some more!

It’s doing my head in. The level of entitlement and rag like behaviour from so called city fans. Not just on here, but online in general is becoming awful.

After one defeat, I repeat one defeat, half the teams not good enough and needs to be sold. We’ve got young players like Trafford and Lewis and brands new signings getting absolutely torn to shreds.

Some of these YouTubers in particular analyse the game to death and spread that unbelievably negative message.

That's at best disingenuous and at worst a complete misrepresentation of why some people were so unhappy about yesterday. It's not about one game, it's about the last 18 months. It's about two squandered FA Cup Finals in which we were undone in the same fashion, it's about a 13 game run that read W1, D2, L10 and included three truly awful CL performances against Sporting, Feyenoord & Juventus and a shameful home defeat against possibly the worst United team we've ever faced, it's about the capitulations to PSG and Madrid and the thrashing at Arsenal, it's about conceding four goals (and it could have been eight) to a Saudi pro-league team in the CWC, and collectively it's about the complacency inherit in all of the above. No right back, slow centre halves pushed up on the halfway line and undone by the same long ball into the space behind them again and again and again and again, torturous backwards and sideways passing in the final third without ever attempting a cross or a shot, a lack of pace/legs in midfield, and to which we can now add persevering with that same modus operandii only with a goalkeeper clearly lacking the requisite confidence/ability required with his feet.

You're right, we don't have a divine right to win all the time and there's a section of our support who may have forgotten where we came from, but expressing one's irritation at witnessing the same flawed patterns over what is now a prolonged period of time, on a fan's forum, doesn't really constitute 'rag like' behaviour

Did you go to the game? I didn't watch MOTD in the evening but I was there, and Trafford's performance was shocking. You should be able to say it as it is.

That was the first home game. Had we been 8 games in, and we had had some solid performances, then you could pass the game off as one of those when everything went wrong but it carries more significance because it is the first home game.

Perhaps expectations were too high. I had thought that last season was an aberration due to injury and that we had made good signings. Having seen City play, our midfield was given the run around by Spurs. Only Reijnders coped. Nico and Cherki had very weak games.

Good. Only amazed you haven't blocked me. I don't take these poor defeats particularly well ;-)

I’m talking about one game and the reaction to that game. I don’t think our performances over the last 18 months or so warrant people slating players like Trafford or Cherki. Some of the comments on here have been ridiculous over the last 24 hours. Having a poor spell doesn’t justify that.

I think it’s a bit of overreaction as well for fans to be saying pep out as well, would you not agree with that? I think it is rag like behaviour - it’s a sense of entitlement and meltdown if we don’t win a game.

if you want to talk overall, we’ve had a season of not being great and still finished 3rd and got a cup final. Thats with what ten years pretty much of constant success.

Ha, I do the same. Can't resist.

Here's the thing, though. I've put a few people on Ignore (as I would suppose a few have done with me). Not many. They were posters with a long track record of posting stuff that got right up my nose. (Not stuff I disagree with. It's good to have people to disagree with, and that can mean strong disagreement, incidentally). They've stayed on ignore. Some, incidentally, don't post any more, I notice. I guess they were just trolls, passing through. But in a few cases, I put someone on ignore, and then went back on it (it's a very good thing that there's that function, by the way), because I realised that there are just moments when they go pretty wild, but plenty of posts that are in fact worth reading when they're in their saner moments.

That might be an excuse but I don't think Nico is good enough and Cherki's defending is weak.

The midfield we played was weak. We didn't see it at Wolves because Wolves are not Wolves and Cherki did not start that game. Bernardo started instead of Cherki and Bernardo is mobile and tenacious.

All Cherki's assets are offensive. I think there are games in which he might start but you need to be strong defensively to do so.

We are learning about our players and realising that they have weaknesses as well as strengths. I was worried about Trafford and wanted City to bring in Donnarumma, and that opinion is now justified.

I would agree. But I've got to admit I got a good laugh out of @Lavinda Past's post a couple of pages back. Something about that photo really tickled me.
I'd like to think that even
@Centurions was able to have a bit of a chuckle. We've all got to be a bit self-deprecating.

Haha just seen it!

It was one game. I presume if Donnarumma makes a mistake you’ll want him out as well?

We shouldn’t be judging any players or using one game to justify and opinion on someone. If I remember Ederson also made a huge mistake on his first couple of games. Khusanov as well.

New players in particular, as we’ve seen need time and patience to adapt to the way we play. Pep clearly sees something in these new mainly young signings, so let them develop

I’d add to this the same tactics with players who can’t play it, the ticky tacky works when yiu gave a squad of players who’s first touch and energy can achieve this and get them out of trouble, we have no bought players who can’t do this, the prime example is Trafford. Our style relied on Ederson more than any will know, he started most moves from the back, our defenders weren’t afraid to take the ball and pass it around, we don’t have that anymore. I thought at wolves we had changed to a more aggressive one touch with speed attack and yet here we are again yesterday, constantly passing it out to the wings then back into the middle, not once do we try to do a long ball or even through ball to Erling. Pep does not have prime Barcelona or Prime City anymore, he needs to adapt his style to the players at his disposal otherwise it will end up the same and I think he will move on at the end of the season. He doesn’t have his mate Tixi anymore and the new guy may see things differently, im not saying they’ll sack him but maybe he will move on amicably.
