Are we missing a prime Kyle Walker type player, how many times did he save us when someone broke through onside,

…a player with the ball is slower than the defender catching him, if we’re going to play such a high line then Khusanov would surely catch them,

…I don’t think this will solve all our problems, but this is surely one simple fix!

(I’m sure this must have been discussed before but couldn’t find a thread)

A bit of a myth to think walker single handedly stopped every counter. He didn’t and was out of position himself towards the end. Pace is needed and Khusanov aside we have none so the simple fix is to stop playing a stupidly high line
It shouldn't matter if the team has the energy and industry to press the opposition high and out-fight them. What we saw against Spurs, and all last season, was a team that lacked intensity in the press and were out-fought all over the pitch. That combined with a high line is suicidal. If the response is to just sit back deeper, then that'll affect our ability to create chances at the other end. Having said that, on days like Saturday where we were clearly off the boil, perhaps some pragmatism is necessary.

If your players are older and slower you have to. Ake stones Dias and Rico, there isn’t the pace to recover that stupid high line. We struggled to create regardless so you may as well sure up the back and work on how to penetrate

I am not sure that is the case. City seemed to work very hard. Pep's explanation was in the quality of our possession. I agree. And Trafford gifted them a goal.

Khusanov is very quick. As quick as Kyle Walker but where do you play him? If we play him in central defence then, it means displacing Stones or Dias. I don't think it's ideal to play him at right back because I am not sure he is that good going forward. Perhaps Stones can play right back and Khusanov at centre back.

We don’t do pragmatism.

Other teams either have a system and playing style to fit their players - as Thomas Frank showed on Saturday- or buy players to fit their style.

We used to be very good at doing both, the best you wouldd have to say. But for the past couple of years it appears we’ve been unable to do either, so we end up where we are now. A set of tactics that the current players can’t implement, and with a few players who probably would fit better with the tactics (Khusanov) sat on the bench.

Why would you play Stones at RB when he has no pace whatsoever and you could guarantee when he would try to put the hammer down he would pull a hamstring

I wouldn't want to ideally but it would allow us to bring in Khusanov into central defence where he is ideally suited. The question was how to bring in our jet-heeled defender. Pay attention.
