Sheffield Wednesday on the brink… | Enter administration (p30)

It’s all arbitrary really. It’s just what works now and historically from an administrative perspective and London and Manchester have taken a multi-council model instead of creeping into neighbouring towns like Leeds has done. I would guess that the way Manchester is surrounded by strong towns close by in all directions means that these places have always had the strength to stand alone whereas Leeds has/had smaller communities who historically wanted to piggyback off the wealth of Leeds.
Newcastle’s is the same. Newcastle council only takes in the city centre, a little the the north, most of the west and that’s it. I live in North Shields, which is a Newcastle suburb, but it’s in North Tyneside. Not far from me is Northumberland, which also takes up parts of the west of Newcastle, including the airport, and the affluent areas where most of the players live. South of the Tyne you have South Tyneside and Gateshead. You also have Sunderland council which arguably takes up an area bigger than it should.
Yesterday I went to my mates to watch the match, I came from North Tyneside, went through the tunnel to cross the river into South Tyneside, then went to his in Gateshead, passing a turn off that had the ‘Welcome to Sunderland sign’ on it, indeed if I took the next exit instead of the exit I did take, I would have passed through Sunderland council areas as well, even though the location has Gateshead on it and an NE postcode. All this in about 10 miles of travel.

Fun fact, because of the fragmentation of Tyneside’s councils, and the fact that Sunderland’s area is inflated by including Washington, Springwell (the place I mentioned before), and other areas that are clearly a part of Durham instead, until recently Sunderland ranked higher than Newcastle in population statistics.

If we took Newcastle’s total conurbation, we’d be looking at a population over 1m people, we’d probably be very similar in size to Glasgow, and would be bigger than Liverpool.

So technically they should be called Notts fores( as in nottinghamshire),which they hate being called
And Notts county should be Nottingham County.....er I think ; )
Forest used to play on the Forest Recreation Ground ( in the city)

County used to play at Trent Bridge, across the river in West Bridgford

I'm not sure myself as a ST holder if I go to more games or not, it's dead money either way.
As a Newcastle United fan who gave up my season ticket when Rafa left and it was clear that Ashley wanted us racing to the bottom, and now have to ballot to get to 4 games a season, fucking keep your season ticket. Even if you don’t go until there is a change of ownership.
Following our takeover, obviously Man City’s 15 years ago, Leeds’, and West Ham’s gradual takeover, Sheffield Wednesday is the last of Englands sleeping giants to be taken over.

It would be fucking hilarious if after getting their knickers in a twist over our takeover, but keeping the doors open for Kuwait or Bahrain to takeover a top 6 club, they came in for Sheffield Wednesday instead.

Thanks m8

I have a ST for 25/26 whether I use it or not, if he is still around come I renewals then I'm out, but as soon as he goes then I'm back in.

Hopefully that is this season, then I won't have to miss getting a ticket.

Personally I think the breaking point will be the next renewal period, as he'll realise the ST money he usually gets early and robs Peter to pay Paul will be massively reduced due to fans staying away, that is when either we entre administration or the EFL force a sale due to him not being able to fund the club.

I’d be amazed if there is a mass exodus my knowledge of Wednesdayites is your more likely to rally to the cause and end up defying logic with ridiculously high gates I still remember being at both Derbies when you were in Div 3 48k+ at the we will fight forever more because of Boxing Day and the 1-1 at Bramhall Lane 46k if I remember correctly Terry Curran equaliser

My bad..
I remember reading years ago about forest on the recreation ground
I didn't know about Notts county playing outside the city border.
Thanks for correcting me ! ( My home town too-oops)

Fair fuck. to Wrexham from owners to fans

Well done Wrexham, a lot of their fans were not happy at the clubs stance on allowing in the banner that was at Leicester (SWFC For Sale - Enough Is Enough) saying it had political connotations, especially as their club was nearly run into the ground by Shysters.

We will pay them back with 3 points tomorrow.

All credit to Wrexham for that gesture. I get the impression that there's a lot of ill will (aka Jealousy) towards them for the position they find themselves in. But that will shirley get some of the haters off their backs.

That's a decent result for the Owls today, given the shitstorm they're in the middle of.

dont think folk really hate them uts the arrogance if there NEW found fan base who sadly come across as arrogant and i put money on there arrogance will be down to the clubs they previously supported :(

Still credit to them for backing SWFCs cause others should be doing the same

I agree with a lot of this, it's not their fault the media love them.

Wrexham fans from back in the day must hate the "new fan"

Similar to City, I remember going to a League Cup game at teh Eithiad vs Southampton for a bit of ground hopping, and there were 2 City fans clearly from back in the day saying "where were all these when we were shyte"

It's not the fans fault if a club becomes successful/popular

Happened with us when we hit the PL
1990/96 average 5/6k gates
Magically it jumped up to 18k 3 years later when we hit the top flight and for one never enjoyed sharing a ground with glory hunting pricks.

Now it feels different if we did hit the top table least we would know that over 75% stuck wih it through the bad times.
Like you say not the clubs fault they aint gonna turn good money away from bandwagon jumpers

Hopefully this link removes The Times paywall

He's absolutely bonkers, only way he leaves is if the club is taken from him as he won't sell.

As lot of people have said we are not short of credible buyers, but we are short on a credible seller.
I feel your frustration WYO. The bloke is clearly a bluffer (I would have said chancery, but people would then think I was trying to be clever with his name; as if!).

Reading that begs the question; how did he pass that fit and proper person test (assuming that applies in the EFL)?

Like most do he had money to start with, but blew his load in the first 2 seasons. Since then he's been like a gambler chasing his losses.

Regarding the Fit & Proper Person Test, I think it should be regularly reviewed rather than a one off at the begining.
