£100m+ on Rice.
£120m on Wirtz.

Spent a big chunk of £100m on Reis, Gonzalez, Khusanov, who don’t play and even if they did wouldn’t be as effective as either of the two above.

Mostly we get transfers right, but recently it does feel like we back off the very, very best if another club bids higher. That won’t keep us at the top.

It's not really a recent thing - we always seem incredibly reticent to get into any bidding war and always want the player to state they only want us, to help with negotiations. When players don't do that, we drop out - as we did with Rice & possibly Wirtz, although I think Wirtz just wanted Liverpool.

There is a chance of that to be honest and once we hit the top of the mountain for whatever reason, the club seem to have possibly assumed it would just continue while others got the bit between their teeth and pushed back and have possibly now even gone past us with squad quality.
True mate but they definitely have pushed past us .

Once pep leaves I would imagine we will go back to blitzing the market .

Potentially missing out on one of the world’s best just to get an extra million or two for a player out of contract next summer?
The fee for Donnarumma is significant. And consider that we could keep Ederson for a season and then sign a pre-contract agreement with Donnarumma in January.

He’s not going to wait for next season and City. Lol!

He’s a top keeper. Clubs will be in for him either in this transfer window, most likely, or in the January transfer window.

Maybe we just don't want him. I've not seen any credible source that suggests we do.

You on about the Wirtz who cost more than Cherki and Reinjders combined, who has made absolutely 0 impact in 3 games and not looked physically up to the premier league standard?

All while Cherki and Reinjders have scored goals and made an impact in less playing time.

Yes but we still should have bought Cherki and Reijnders. Wirtz would have been better than the players we spent on in January though.

It’s been obvious since it come out he was available that Chelsea and/or United would be after him - it’s inconceivable that they haven’t been contacted by his agent

The reality is, this deal could have been done weeks ago if City would have taken the pinch on perhaps not getting the exact number they wanted so this was always a risk - their is a cost of doing and a cost of *not* doing

Also, our pitch to Donnamruma hasn’t been great. We like you but want to pay low money and we don’t like you enough that we are willing to buy you without making sure the keeper we really want to keep has gone
Actual reality or, more like your assumption of it?

Again, is this simply your assertion as I'd be amazed if you were given the MoM between club and player

Honestly I think what we’ve seen from Wirtz so far justifies the club not wanting to spend £130m on the guy, it’s a huge risk.

Also it wasn’t like it was one or the other was it?

Do you really think had we signed Wirtz in January that we would have finished higher in the table than signing the lads we did?

I’d wager without goals from Marmoush, the performance of Nico Gonzales against Newcastle and Khusanovs great run of performances we would have been in trouble.

There's no point in keeping Eddie if he doesn't want to be here, we can't have a no1 goalie just going through the motions until he can escape to where he wants to be .

Just think pep rules what we do in the market etc he has a massive influence on what we do as last season when he basically overruled he chairman saying we didn’t need a rebuild .
How do you know that he overruled our CHAIRMAN. :-) :-) :-) :-)
