Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

I don't think the style of system has become outdated nor that coaches have worked out how to counter it. We are just really shit at playing that way. It used to be one of two touch pass and move football, with incredible intensity off the ball. If a team did defend against it, they would usually run out of steam and we would find the goal we needed.

We didn't do enough to bring the next top players through to evolve it and through a combination of mother time and injuries were left with no energy to break teams down. Walking football won't win anything. Inject some pace into a possession dominant approach and it will be as successful as it always has been.

Against Spurs was the same old issues of individual errors and a real lack of energy off the ball. The latter being something Pep would never have stood for.
I agree that we just need to do things more quickly.
I do think that the league has become much more defensive, and the level of coaching is superior.
It's a bit chicken and egg, but I think we can counter point 2 with point 1.

Yeah there is definitely a focus on percentages with plenty of teams really focussing on specific plays almost like an NFL approach. Set pieces, counter attack systems all a lot more drilled than they were.

But ultimately if we can get Rodri back fit and the balance back, and move the ball more quickly which he is a fundamental part of, we will be so much better equipped at both ends of the pitch. He remains the key to our success in my opinion.

Agree . He is our metronome . And I really dislike the set piece approach. City are accused of being boring but waiting for a set piece to be set up is tedious in the extreme . If I wanted to watch that I'd be a rugby union fan .

I think the best 11 we have are more suited to counter-attacking football rather than keeping the possession, he will have to change his style. Our best 11 includes Marmoush and Haaland, and both would prosper more in a counter-attacking setup .

Not gonna happen mate

I just hope he spent the week rewatching the Spurs game and Brighton loss from last season. I guess Brighton will try to cook up something from that two games, taking some ideas from Spurs.

if we draw or lose then 3 or 4 points from 9 is a poor start. make it 6, and go on break with bit of positivity.

why not? you think Pep wants Jack to fail at Everton?
I' m sure he does not want him to fail as bang goes £40 million if Everton decide not to sign him. Also if he fails he will have to come back to City which I 'm sure he will not want another Phillips situation

Would be good for once is we could cook something up from the start and do something different to out-fox the opponent

Based on the latest quotes it will be business as usual.

Pep ain’t budging which means the players need to carry out his instructions to a higher standard or we will struggle to win consistently.

I am normally in the don’t change camp. It’s his philosophy that has taken us to unprecedented levels. However, the teams we face seem to have found a way to negate us if we don’t score with the 2/3 chances we create early.

Frustrating but you got to hand it to the man. He has his principles and won’t budge.

Hopefully the players step up.

Those days are long gone sadly.

I expect a draw/ loss tomorrow. It feels like last season already.

The VAr manipulation today has annoyed me, I despair with it. I swear the corruption - because that is what it is - has really ramped up and we are only 3 games in.
Chaves, Rags and Dips have all benefitted so far with opponents havibg good goals disallowed ( Chavs x3 in 3 games), Rags already on two penalties and opposition havibg good goals disallowed ( Grimsby/ Burnley) and Dippers - Gordon sent off for a soft foul that killed Van Hype who rose Lazurus like to continue to foul throughout the game with importunity.

Spuds first goal last week - if we had scored that we know it would have been chalked off. No var review on Bobb? being held in the box.

Totally designed to benefit certain clubs, of which we are not one.

It's as bad as WWE with the fixing imo.

Yes he's won us things we could only dream of, yes he will most likely be our most successful ever manager... but times change and as you said other teams have adapted to find more effective ways to set up and play against us.

It's pure arrogance to suggest that City don't need change given what we have seen for coming up a year now. We are so easy to score against it's a joke, and we no longer have the combination of players going forward to create patterns of play that lead to clear-cut chances being made.

It took 30 minutes to register our first effort on goal in the second half against spurs last week - and even that was a Rodri header from a corner.

Personally when chasing the game 2-0 down at home I'd rather see us have a bit of a go rather than sticking to 'principles' of side to side, slow, laboured nothing football.
