Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

Last shot on target was Haaland's goal according to one set of stats. 56 minutes without a shot on target.
This from a team that used to break scoring records on a regular basis.

This is why I’m not convinced the answer to our problems is solely in the transfer market.

We had the likes of Doku, Haaland, Marmoush, Bobb, Rodri and Reinjders on the pitch and barely created anything. In the second half last week we had Foden and Cherki as well as still didn’t create anything.

Where are the patterns of play or risk taking in the side?

One positive we have a very good keeper, who can be with us for years. But typical city will just go ahead spend money and replace him with Donna.

I presumed he was being sarcastic. But genuinely, this is our tactic.

1000 sideways passes, allow the opposition to catch their breath then hammer us with their renewed energy which we can’t withstand.

The passes aren’t working. It used to be them chasing shadows, getting knackered and us capitalising on that. Now they let us have it. Pep should take it as an insult, not our whole way of attacking.

That quote gives me Pellers "We don't look at the opposition" vibe.

Dominating?

That was far from domination, We were winning 1-0 and couldn't be arsed to go and kill the game off, playing like we were 3-0 up!

Brighton were fucking terrible, they rung the changes and then started to put pressure on, we all know what happens when you put pressure on this City side over the last year...Capitulation.

We don't "dominate" games anymore, we can't even keep the ball anymore never mind dominate a game ffs.
That's the sad part. Tottenham and Brighton didn't even play well when we lost to them. God help us all when we'll face Arsenal and Liverpool, especially away. I can already smell another 5-1 ffs..

So much wrong.

Just so much wrong. Recruitment has been off/misplaced. Ignored gaping holes. Haven’t addressed needs when we do bring players in.

Tactics are just off. Everyone in the world — including the guys in the locker room, I’d wager, — know we don’t have the personnel for the system. Except Pep.

Conditioning is off. Last two weeks we’ve wilted so, so much in the last 45. How many shits on goal did we have in the second halves the last two weeks? Two? Less?

We needed to be ruthless last summer after the 4th in a row. We *really* needed it this summer. And with a day to go, the deadwood’s still on the squad, in the eleven, and even wearing the captain’s armband. We can’t possibly do enough before the window closes.

So we hold on, wait for another summer and hope the turnover happens? Including the manager at that point?

One goal in 2 games.

Moaning cunts asking for Pep out. Who are you replacing him with?

It’s 3 games in. Not the best start but again, it’s 3 games in.

Once the window closes tomorrow we will settle and get our mojo off and running.

Pep out? Wankers.
no ones going off 3 games. Dont be silly.
People have seen the decline over last season and lets be honest the year before. Yeah we won it but the signs were there

We are allowed to voice concerns witjout being called wankers by gate keepers like you

Massive blue you

This is spot on, but still made me LOL.
Agree with you on Rodri and Nico as a replacement on the hour mark. Rodri was our player today by far and helped unify the whole defence and attack .
As for buying players , Pep has the ultimate say in that process so buying a right back would be a priority one would think but Pep does seem to be happy with Nunes and Lewis who is on a new contract. Maybe if we'd had Lewis on sooner we'd have seen the game out with a 1-0 win. But these are smal little things the manager has to get right. I thought he got it right for the first hour or so until they brought new energy with 4 subs all at once. We didn't react. We defended badly as a unit. We also have to want it more.
Confidence building comes from the manager ultimately who has tremendous influence especially on younger players. I felt Pep was very flat today and celebrated our goal with a clenched fist but the emotional reaction we normally see from him was not there. Something isn't quite right.

The problem is a massive lack of quality now. From today's first XI we had the following midtable players:

Khusanov
Ait-Nouri
Nunes (midtable at best)
Bernardo (well past it)
Bobb

And then we brought on:

Lewis (midtable at best)
O'Reilly
Doku (midtable at best)

You just aren't going to consistently win matches carrying this number of players. It's crazy.

We need Foden and Gvardiol fit and to sign a right back.

True. Some of our attempted passes were laughable. Kicking it straight at an opponent, or playing one of our own into immediate trouble. We used to always have 2 or 3 players in space for the man in the ball to pass to. It’s like whatever Pep taught us has all been forgotten. We can’t retain possession for 2 minutes any more. Let alone in the opponents half.
If we’d been remotely adventurous and attacking in the first 60 minutes the game would have been out of sight. Brighton were shocking and we just strolled through the game making shit decisions with slow ponderous football and as soon as Brighton came into the game we crumbled.
