It's Quiet the £250m return

Far too much nonsense in this thread over past few weeks patting Viana and the club on the back because it looks like we are going to get rid of Akanji and Gundogan. How about the obvious starting us in the face that this squad has too many average or project young players (overrated by many) to compete for the league / champions league. And I don’t mean win them, just compete. For too long we haven’t replaced world class players who have left or are over the hill with anywhere near the same levels.

Some of us have been saying it for a while mate and got pelters for it? Hate it being like this but it was obvious and showed no signs of changing despite the score line against Wolves as we still looked vulnerable at the back in that game? It’s been horrendously managed on the football side and if Khaldoon has any chops about him he should be telling Viana to get Donnarumma, a top right back, winger and midfielder in tomorrow and there is say £300m to go and do it! We got EMBARRASSED in the champions league last season and this will be even worse if they don’t react. Mansour must be fuming currently at how it’s going from the football side of the business.

You do realise how stupid your suggestion for tomorrow is don’t you?

The right backs can’t attack. They are shite defensively and shite going forward.
Balls to that, Lewis got an assist against Wolves and Nunes got 3 & a goal from there in his sporadic appearances in the second half of last season.

Defensively, they both have issues - Lewis physicality & speed, Nunes his propensity to make a brainfart.

Pep literally just said that these last results change nothing we are going to do before the end of the transfer window

So its Donarumma (who imho will actually make things worse) and no one else

We’ve given Rico and Nunes more than enough minutes to know it’s actually hurting them and hurting the team to keep doing it. Short term fix for me is stones or khusanov there or even Akanji Bernardo or gundogan who all are better on the ball and smarter than Nunes or Rico. Not ideal, but better for all.

Bar a penalty that felt very unfortunate I thought Nunes did as well against Mitoma as any of the makeshift right backs would.

Lewis coming on with an inverted role was a bigger issue for me, the 3-2 base is getting played through over and over now, the distance between the 3 at the back is far too wide and stones and dias don't have the recovery speed to fix it.

I wish we'd just stay with a 4-2 base and progress the ball into the 3 behind Haaland a bit quicker.

The Nunes problem much like the rico one is you can’t depend on them.

The signs were starting to show for Nunes and the Brighton subs seem to properly upset him(and many others)

And you guarantee Livramento will be a success?
I've read your posts about being a 'guaranteed success' but if we're signing a fullback I think there's a higher chance Livramento would be a success than Harry Ditchfield from Hyde Utd, just for the fact they are better at their job!

No, we cannot guarantee success of any player so you could argue what's the point of signing anyone, if that's the worry???

I don't entirely disagree but I just don't think anyone has bought a right back this summer I'd feel comfortable relying on.

If Gusto, Porro or Livramento move I'll be annoyed we're not in on them but I think we're right to wait for a real upgrade.

So as it stands if we do get Donnarumma(who we don't need) then we had three players on the bench today (Eddie/gundo/akanji) that will be off tomorrow, pep sure does like a send off party, fucking pointless them being there

I think the main issue is that neither of them are good enough to be our starting RB.

Both good squad players and incredibly versatile but if we did sign Livramento you know he’d be starting the majority of games so having Lewis in the squad wouldn’t be a bad thing. Unfortunately they both play a lot of minutes and they both keep getting found out.

I was baffled by the Rico sub. Not sure what he was hoping for, as he wasn't going to win the midfield battle and yet again, left us with no pace

So it looks like the one area that has actually looked somewhat decent so far (goalkeeping) is the one area we are going to strengthen on the last day of the window and ignore all of our major issues. I have nothing against Donnarumma joining, he is a top player, but surely thats an issue that should be at the bottom of our list of priorities to strengthen right now.
