It's Quiet the £250m return

We're not winning anything this year so I'd let Trafford keep the gloves. See how he progresses. He looks a big upgrade on Eddie as a shot stopper.

And all this nonsense of penny pinching just stop it. We may or may not have bought well but in 2025 we have spent over 300 million.

£359m in 12 months. Be near £400m tomorrow after Donnarumma comes in.

I just think it seems like the "players we want" are Gusto or Livramento and we're not panic buying to fill the space which may turn out to be a very wise approach.

Could you name a RB you'd actually want thats at the right age profile for the squad, available and actually really good? It's a small pool.
liveramento would be ideal I can’t believe we couldn’t have got him if we were willing to pay.

We used to target world class players and were in the mix for them if they were for sale. We shop more in the bargain bin now or look for resale value. Apart from Rodri and Haaland, the squad quite frankly looks very mid table. There isn't anyone that would have top teams fighting to get. As great as the treble and quad were they seemed to have sealed the coffin on future ambition.

Our best players were rarely regarded as world class before they joined.

Coming from Schalke, Atletico, Benfica, Wolfsburg, Valencia, Shakhtar etc.

This idea we frequently took players off CL challenging teams is a bit of a rewriting of history. Most of our greats we made much better after buying them.

If we have even a quarter of a chance on any top-tier talent that can bring us goals or proven quality at right back we need to pull the fucking trigger

Nunes habitually gave the ball away. Was never positionally comfortable and even managed to fall over with nobody near him at one point. It was the very definition of incompetence. I’m shocked anyone can defend him.
The ridiculous penalty he gave away was the cherry on top of the icing on the cake.
You are entitled to your opinion, I just hope the football minds at our club don’t share it..
whatever keeps the dream alive ...even for another 24 hrs or soI guess

The club have seemingly changed it's policy from buy players who can win now, to buy players who we hope can develop.

  1. Kovacic
  2. Gvardiol
  3. Doku
  4. Nunes
  5. Savinho
  6. Nico
  7. Khusanov
  8. Reis
  9. Marmoush
  10. Reijnders
  11. Cherki
  12. Ait Nouri
Out of those players we have recruited over the past 3 years. I can look at maybe less than half that actually look like they would be up to the standard of that treble winning team. A lot of players who would be excellent squad players, but no one who looks like they would come into that team and be a difference maker. You can't miss on half your signings and expect to compete. We have moved away from buying ready made players and have moved into this developmental philosophy, which clearly has not worked.

If the club are serious about competing, they need to start buying players that we know can play in this league at that level, and stop betting on potential and hoping they can put it all together.

I fear this may be a very rough year, and I think heads could roll come the end of the season.
The simple question here is how many on that list would get in the treble winning side?

The answer is not a single one aside from possibly Gvardiol.

We have replaced class with “decent”.

We have been monitoring him for years though. Every player does need a season to settle. Trafford and Rodri were the only remotely competent players today.
You dont need a season to know how to defend.
He has featured in 3 games and in each game he has been exposed defensivley.
