A lot better than last year which saw us play poorlyf, and get humiliated in Europe but still finish third and reach a FA Cup final. I expect us to do about the same this year but look a lot better as an attacking and defensive unit as the season goes on. And then next season seriously compete for the big titles again. That should always have been expectation when it became clear that they fucked up the transition of the treble squad.

I am done raging about that and accepted that this rebuild won't happen over night.
I don’t think this group of players can mount a serious challenge for silverware. Like you said the rebuild of the treble squad was seriously fucked up. Add to that now that KDB is gone, Grealish is gone, Gundo, Ederson, Akanji may follow. We never replaced Mahrez or Alvarez. The group that won us these trophies and dragged us over the line in hard games is gone and the players we have brought in are not good enough.

I worry now that the apex of our improvement might be the end of last season - pick our points up against teams from the bottom half and fall to bits when we face any real quality or energy.

No, we had 8 years with mostly the same squad at their peaks. Then they declined massively last season and now we have for the first time in 8 years entered a period of transition. There is nothing surprising about our performances being wildly inconsistent at this moment in time, even inside the 90 minutes.

We as fans are just incredibly spoilt and impatient, especially after the shit we served last season which could and should have been avoided. But breathe, there has been enough postives in the 3 first games to see that when we click into gear in our relations and fitness we will look very very good. We have been very good in the majority of the Wolves and Brighton games, and were decent in the first-half in the Spurs game and deserved to lead. We have been punished by pretty dangerous sides but we should be putting out even more complete performances as the season goes on
How are you watching us today and concluding we were “very good in the majority of the game” mate?

Help me.

I can’t see how this will work, unless we change the way we play. If we want to play pep style football, we need a keeper who’s amazing with their feet.

Trafford I think is decent, nothing spectacular though. Donnaruma is more like Joe hart with his feet
He is a world class keeper ffs!!!!

Not convinced one bit he improves where we are at right now.

The journalist Julien Laurens - who is a PSG fan - says he doesn't think Donnarumma even suits the PL let alone City. Says basically the one thing you have to be good at as a PL goalkeeper is being able to come out for crosses and he is terrible at it.

It's one of the reasons Onana is so bad.

Ben Foster reckons he is an immense shot stopper, but because of his height he gets lazy and takes for granted certain things in games because he knows/ or believes in too much that his height and arm length will bail him out

Ederson is shite on crosses as well so it will make no difference for us if he is.

It confuses the fuck out of me. If some City fans think Pep is suddenly going to play route one football then I don’t know what planet they’ve been living on for 18 years. Ederson was a huge part of our dominance because he was Pep keeper of his dreams.

Because we completely controlled a good team that we usually struggle against for 70 minutes. A bit disjointed and sloppy in the beginning, but then the balance started looking very promising, and could have eadily been up more than 1-0. Then we conceded, fitness levels went to shit, managed the game a bit poorly both from the sideline and on the pitch and then we had a disapointing result.

But with such a new team this early those 70 minutes counts for something. If we don't build on this or start regressing then it is time to worry

Bit harsh on Trafford but could genuinely be the shot in the arm the club needs. Buying ready made internationally recognised world class talent again.

A (very) rare positive spin on here today, in the aftermath of that result. Fair play to you mate!
I do agree with you that we should have been more than 1-0 up - some golden chances spurned.
