It's Quiet the £250m return

Would love a statement signing today. Probably on the back of two disappointing results I just think the squad needs a real lift. We’ve brought in young players that will improve us for the future but I’m hoping City blitz money on a ready made star. Someone like Rodrygo, Palmer, Olise, Barcola or f&ck it Yamal! Someone who to make the rest of the league take note we’re not dead yet.

I never thought we could get him, and have ignored all the right back speculation as none of it seemed realistic.

If the window ends with the following major additions, I will be happy.

no. 1: Donnarumma. One of best keepers in the world.
no. 3: Ait-Nouri. Competent enough when fit.
no 8: Reijnders. His talent is already obvious.
no.10: Cherki. To be seen. Out for 2 months.

The addition of Reijnders and Donnarumma should give City fans cause for optimism. In the spine of our side, I still doubts over no. 10, and the left-sided forward (Doku, Savinho). In the Brighton game we saw evidence that Marmoush and Haaland can combine. We have to integrate Marmoush into the side. He isn't a left-winger. The emergence of Bobb upgrades the right hand side.

Are we ready to fight Arsenal and Liverpool for the title? I don't think so, but it looks like we will be significantly stronger if Donnarumma comes in. Ederson was already a top class keeper, but he wanted out, and we needed a solution.

We know the old team is history but we are in the process of building a new one. If we can bring in Donnarumma, I think we will have done as much as could be reasonably expected in this window. We need a left sided forward, a no. 10, a right back, and possibly another centre back. Doku, Savinho, Cherki, Foden, O'Reilly might grow into some of those roles. Rodri is also recovering.

Arsenal and Liverpool are the finished product. We could win the title but it would be unlikely.I think City have the potential to finish in the top 5, and we are re-building a squad that will challenge for the title again. This window is a stepping stone. It might take 2 or 3.
I think this is largely bang-on.
I would rather Trafford be the No.1, but that's a personal thing.
I think your expectations and assessment of where we are in a timeline is correct.

I think we get a young right back from the Portugal league mate.
Not worth bringing players in unless they are what we want, otherwise they become problems as they have to be moved on. Look at the effort it took to get an acceptable deal for Ederson.

Rodrygo does not come into that bracket. Donnarumma does.

Unfortunately more work to be done

To end the transfer window with a goalkeeper who isn’t a much needed signing and no right back will set the tone for the season. They have to sign a right back today or we’re in a fight again to be amongst the top 4. That’s fine btw but I don’t want Pep’s last two years at this club wasted.
No exactly we don't need a world class keeper in do we ffs?! Sick of the idiots on here

Have we signed a right back yet?

The fans hve been saying that for 2 seasons.

Money no object, you can sign one player on deadline day to 'fix' our problems. Short term or long term.

Who would it be?

Bowen, I'll get laughed at for that suggestion but he's standing out at West ham and doing it every season he's been there he brings goals and output. It would lessen the burden on Haaland. Would actually give us a winger that can produce.

Not a bad shout at all. Good player and immediate impact.

Agreed but it's just not happening. We've just got to accept that we are where we are. Since the treble we've spent £600m and yet the squad is considerably worse.

The standards are on the fucking floor right now. Kyle Walker left the club in January and eight months later we're still playing Nunes and Lewis there.

Marmoush joined in January and is one of our highest earners and the guy literally cannot control the ball.

Genuinely what is the strategy with the goalkeepers. Why are we signing two for £60m in a summer where we don't have a right back?

Guardiola and the board have put this squad in a worse place than before he arrived.
I partly agree with this but I still think there's a lot of ability in a fully fit first XI. We have:

Numerous proven international quality centre backs.
A decent left back with two of said centre backs capable of deputising well.
Numerous quality central midfield options, with the world's best player being one.
A killer up front who scores almost every game.
We're about to add a CL winning goalkeeper from last season.

We have two glaring weaknesses at right back and out wide. Our wingers are rubbish. The two clowns we play at right back have cost us two out of three games so far.
If we can just get a good right back we'll be in a good spot overall.

Donnarumma definitely signing and replacement Ederson. Another example that the people making the transfers at City are buying players that do not fit in with what Guardiola wants from his players.

Guardiola doubled down again “I love a thousand million passes” then why do we keep buying players that can’t do that?!

You can have an opinion on whether Guardiola’s tactics are correct or whether his style works but when you have a manager so wedded to one way of playing then for 3 seasons buy players that can’t play that way. After a while it will turn to shit.

Take Trafford yesterday made some great saves but he is so unconvincing with his feet that it doesn’t help our all round game and we look shakey for it. Even Haaland great goalscorer but can he keep possession, no. We covered it with having 10 other players who could but now we don’t have that and it shows.

Recruitment has made no sense!!

How many are available on the market willing to come to City?

Rice said no.
Bellingham said no.
Wirtz said no.

It's clear what we need but there have to be people willing to say yes!

It's not like money is the problem.. they didn't want to come here because of 115 and it's still not resolved yet!
This is the elephant in the room

The top caliber of player are not going to take the risk with this hanging over our heads

We’ve gone from dining at the top table to taking punts on players with potential - a bit like Spurs would do - some will be very good buys , some won’t.

Hopefully it will be resolved very soon as until it is we are being stifled

Exactly what the cartel wanted

The squad in 2016 had Kompany, Sterling, De Bruyne, Aguero, Fernandinho and David Silva.

Literally every single one of those players would start for us now mate in my opinion.
Sure, but going the other way, Ederson or Donnarumma, Gvardiol, Dias or Stones, Rodri and Haaland would also start for the 2016 side.
