Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Pep has changed the teams style 3 times in the last 9 seasons.

He will have more scouting intel on Donnarumma than anyone here. I imagine he knows how to accommodate the drop in passing ability.

You arent replicating Ederson with anyone, Ederson was used as an initial playmaker at times. They just don't need to do that anymore. It's not the drastic change that people think it is.
Totally agree

If you look on social media after yesterday, we want Pep and Haaland gone.

My point entirely.

Social media is a cesspit of anger. You would think PSG fans would be up in arms at losing the best keeper in the world... but they're not.

Its just dawned on me he's going to be facing the billion pound Stoke away in one of his very first games. I guess we'll see from the off how much of a problem his aerial dominance or lack of will be.

I'd rather Trafford no1
The club has had a similar attitude and that’s why we are in the shit we are in. It’s the going from Walker and Cancelo to Rico and Nunes. The Phillips is a decent back up to Rodri. The Gundogan can come back and do a job. The Bernardo will be a good captain. Crazy and/or penny-pinching decisions, that have seen us go from domination, to also-rans in the space of a couple of years. Whatever people think of Trafford, putting him number 1 now, is a massive gamble, for the club and for him. We can’t afford any more gambles, we’ve been doing it for too long and it’s not paid off.

'Donnarumma 100 per cent not the right GK for City'

French football expert Julien Laurens speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast:

"Is he the right fit for Manchester City? The answer is: 100 per cent, he isn't.

"On saves - him and Thibaut Courtois, there are no goalkeepers better. Maybe that is enough for Guardiola to say he wants him.

"But to play for Guardiola you have to be good with your feet. If you're not good with the ball at your feet, you are not a Guardiola goalkeeper.

"His distribution is not good enough for a Guardiola team. And his other weakness is he does not come for the ball in the air, he doesn't like coming for crosses and corners.

"If there is one league in the world where you have to be brave like that, it's the Premier League. I cannot see how Guardiola thinks 'this is the perfect guy for me'."

Maybe we are planning for the manager after Pep? I really don't think he is going to stay beyond this season.
He was still able to win the CL with PSG under Enrique who play a similar style of football to Pep.

Trafford's kicking isn't elite either. so overall it's a clear upgrade.

I find this potential signing really depressing. One, because we have a very good goalkeeper in Trafford as I think he showed yesterday and he will loose the opportunity to develop further. Yes, we need a replacement for Ederson but there are plenty of good goalkeepers out there who are out there who would be happy to operate as a NO2 at City. Yes D is considered world class but he offers nothing more than we already have. Secondly, it does not affect in any way the basis weaknesses in the structure of or current side. We are slow and ponderous at the back but we appear unwilling to address this area. Finally, if we are so concerned about signing world class players when they become available why did we not go in for Isak. I'm sure Pep could have accomodated in some way and would offer far more than Marmoush. Yes he was set on Liverpool but only after he was tapped up

Not sure what that has to do with what I posted. I never commented on his performances.

He wanted to leave, he was in the last year of his contract and would have been off next Summer at the latest. Donnarumma is available now. It's a no-brainer really.
He is still good for one more season then we would bring in a new keeper along with Pep's successor. Donnarumma isn't any better than Eddy and does make fuck ups simlar to Eddy too.

I like Julien Laurens a lot, but this weird notion of Pep being this dogmatic taskmaster who only knows how to do one thing is pretty fucking tiresome.

We won the league for 2 straight seasons with no striker and a 4-3-3 and in 2021 had the most individual goalscorers in the PL.

We then changed to a 3-6-1 and centralised all of our play towards one striker. And won the league for 2 more seasons.

Peps strength has always been his ability to respond to change. Keeping the ball is just a small part of it. And all Donnarumma needs to be able to do is roll the ball to an open defender.

Can understand concerns about his ability to play out from the back, but it didn't really hamper PSG last season. Am sad to see Ederson go, but once he decided he wanted out we had to get a world class replacement and I think Donnarumma fits that category and was available. He seems like a leader and will hopefully give some confidence to a squad who currently look bereft of it. Looking forward to seeing how he settles in.

yes Gabriel, Saliba, Merino etc will be targeting him at corners. hope our GK coaches will do whats needed in short time.

He wanted to leave though. I don't know why this is so hard to understand. You might argue that Ederson is a better fit for our system but Donnarumma is the better goalkeeper.

The man is a genius but he looks tired, his team looks bored and uninterested and the board seem to think that fucking about with the fans is an Olympic sport.

:)

Keep in mind that this is the same Pep who only figured out how shite Kalvin Phillips was after his first training session.

Tbf I wasn't mad about the Phillips signing and he looked great for England, but when you look at Rodri play and then Phillips in the same spot for City, it's absolute night and day. Things can Rodri can see in seconds take Phillips 1-3 business days.

So did Bernardo but we had manged to keep him motivated enough since. We now have Trafford as another challenger to him
