Just been chatting to my grandson about his new jeans and was explaining how when I was his age when we got a new pair we had to sit in a warm bath to shrink them to size and end up with blue legs

Tapioca, unless properly treated is poisonous. We used to have it at schools in the 50s as there was a Commonweaith deal to buy it all.

I thought tapioca always came ready cooked in tins.
I can't imagine MEC actually cooking something properly.

It used to but health and safety gone mad ruled that you had to buy the plant and make the tapioca pearls yourself because the tins rusted on the cassava branches.

MEC used to overcook everyth8ng to the point that I reckoned any nourishment was in the boiling water not the food.

Had to do the same to a beret when you started in the forces or as they used to say it looked like you had a helicopter landing pad on your head :)

When I lived in Germany I had to send my mum a letter to inform her to be at the phone box at the end of our street at a certain time so I could ring her :)

I'm sure there's plenty FOC's on here who'll recall having a Coal Bunker at home back in the day and regular deliveries off the back of a truck!

Used to be BBC newsreaders dressed suitably as invited guests in the nation's living rooms but News 24 presenter Lewis Vaughan Jones has dispensed with the formal collar and tie and now turns up in an open neck shirt as he announces death and destruction at home and abroad.

All the other news networks manage to dress their male presenters appropriately for their job but our publicly funded broadcaster is happy to irritate a substantial proportion of the older British population like me who expect traditional standards to be upheld.

We had a coal “hole” inbetween the kitchen and the lav.
