I’m in the US and have teenager boys. And yesterday is weighing on me very heavily. I disagree with Kirk on everything and yet as a parent it’s so hard to figure out what to say. My boys saw the video. I don’t want them to grow up to have Kirk’s views, but I abhor political violence of any kind…and gun ownership. I also think important to call out those who stoke violence. Gah, it’s hard to be a parent. And you can’t even have a reasonable conversation about it in the US because you’ll be accused of being a left wing nutter (which I probably lean this way) or a right wing nutter. And so I post here on a football forum, which frankly seems more reasonable about politics than most anything in the US. (Unless we’re discussing Rico)
One of things I do find really hard is all the posts for Kirk’s poor children from people who typically are “apolitical”. Yes, I feel terrible for anyone that has lost a parent. But actual children were shot at yesterday in school in the US and those people said nothing. What about those kids? Or Melissa Hortmans kids (MN politician)? Why do kids only matter sometimes?
Thanks for the space to ramble.
