I live here now and I'm not sure it's possible to convey how deep into the roots of the country this sentiment runs. For someone raised in the UK and with our 'gun culture' until his 20's, it's astonishing.
 
The arguments that the pro gun lobby put forward is that guns are needed for self defence.
Yet, every time there is a mass shooting, the gunman is never shot dead before he murders multiple times.
Usually he kills himself at the scene or drives off and commits suicide later. Occasionally the cops show up and after 3 of theirs have been killed they manage to shoot him dead
Where are all these people who carry guns ? Why do they never shoot him before multiple fatalities?

Comparing the rate to those countries is fine, but how about comparing it to the top 50 wealthiest countries in the world? Also note one of the main reasons those countries have such high rates is because of American’s thirst for drugs.

I was about to post similar, having just read the post.

It's crazy to compare 2nd World countries to a First World one that is claimant to be the "richest in history".

Concealed carry and home defence are very different things.

People have guns at home to defend themselves (and in some states, their property).

Few people in most places conceal carry. This requires training and certification in most states and those are two things most people don’t want. Also, many places don’t allow guns to be carried, e.g. most shops and restaurants, schools and churches…but the bad guys don’t care and see those places as less dangerous to them!

It’s all a little crazy, and definitely different to England, but it feels impossible to change, so you live with it, adjust to it, and gauge your own safety, and thresholds, accordingly.

I was an armed airline pilot for 10 years after 9/11 changed the rules. That training and experience made me a gun owner and now I am able to carry a concealed firearm. Whether I do or not depends on where I’m going and when.

Running to the store? No.
Going to the Supercharger after dark? Yes.
Driving through the country? Yes.

And, if I’m stopped by Police, their computers show I’m CCW and I self-identify whether I am or am not carrying at that time.

I don’t live in Mossley anymore, so local rules apply!

In fairness, their politicians/generals have acted the same way for a long time

Irony of ironies, once you start looking at things state by state, you start to see that it is THE RED STATES that have ALL the big problems, with the sole exception of the usual “big city problems” that all big cities have. However, to feed his MAGAts the steady diet of red meat they need, he throws a few BLUE STATE BIG CITIES under the bus and sends his personal anonymous masked army in to “sort things out” under the guise of going after those darned violent illegal immigrants, most of whom aren’t there!!!
