Starmer’s admitted that he lied about not knowing about the new Epstein messages, but he’s still lying about not knowing the contents of them before he went to PMQs and gave a stout defence of Mandelson.

As a PM you are told that very significant new emails have been unearthed between Epstein and Mandelson that are about to be published by a major UK newspaper, and your first instinct is not to ask what they contain, but to ask if someone could send Mandelson an email to see if he wants to admit to their authenticity. And when Mandelson doesn’t reply, you don’t think about possibly giving the bloke a call, you just go to the Commons and defend Mandelson, even though you don’t know what’s in the emails.
Sounds perfectly reasonable and totally believable.
