Just seen this and it's quite sad to read former Prem keeper Russell Hoult, who played for Derby County and West Bromwich Albion among others has a rare form of cancer, bile duct cancer it's at stage 4 and he's receiving end of life care for his illness...

Remember him being the form English keeper for the whole of the 2002/03 Prem season for West Brom, he didn't really kick on from that and dropped off a bit but I thought he was very unlucky not to at least get an England call up.

After it was obvious Seaman was completely past it, he was in great form for WBA that season but younger prospects got the nod instead.
It shows how short life can be even if you're a professional footballer, who more than likely lives a lot healthier lifestyle than most of us.

His daughter mentions she's doing a half marathon, to raise money for research towards those affected by his rare form of cancer...

Seem to remember some sort of extra marital story when he was with the Baggies. Had a seat behind the goal when they came to ours. Loads of banter thrown his way. At one point he gave a thumbs up behind his back when someone must've dropped a classic. He took it in good part and played a blinder with some of us applauding him off at half time. Very sad news to hear of his current plight. Hope his remaining time is as comfortable as possible.

Really heart-breaking for him and his family. Hits home a lot for me because I also have Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. I'm very lucky (touch wood) that mine seems to be manageable and stable to the extent that some of my doctors aren't sure if it is PSC or just some other kind of biliary disease, but I still have a couple of scans a year to check for cancers. It's an autoimmune disease, and I was first diagnosed with it in about 2009 and have had some scary moments where I looked like I might need a liver transplant but the last 8 years or so have been fine. I have almost entirely given up alcohol, and had a bad kidney removed in that time and both seem to have helped stabilise things a lot.

I hope that his remaining days are as comfortable as they can be.

Just found this out jeez. He seemed like robust no nonsense keeper, illnesses do not seem to care if you kept in shape or spent all day in the pub.. Hope his family finds strength in this difficult time.

Very sad. I lost an ex work colleague to cancer today. 51 years old, no age at all. RIP Chris mate. Wishing Russell all the best under the circumstances
