So here we have the farce of an illegal immigrant, taking the UK to court (with legal costs paid for by the UK) so the UK can pay other lawyers to defend our position, and then the UK court rules against the UK.

Great that we live in a society where we still have checks and balances, and the government still has to follow the rules and guidelines before they take an action against a person.

A lesson for the government here, maybe it might even convince them that making policy to pander to people that just want someone kicked out regardless of the circumstances isn't the thing that's going to get them re-elected.

Because the country is signatory to a convention that says that people entering the country illegally can claim asylum and go through a process to determine whether or not that claim is merited.

I have no idea whether this person will get asylum, but I think we have an obligation to let him prove his case (or not) before we put him on a plane. It appears in this case the government didn't give him that opportunity (pretty much so they could get a PR win to show how tough they are on immigration), so I'm pleased we have those checks and balances in place.

I’ll say this again, for those that didn’t quite get it the first time around. The Tories passed a law to make it illegal but never, ever, ever enacted it because they knew it would’ve been thrown out at the first test.

The Tories knew this, Labour know this, it’s becoming more a pantomime piece the more that it gets told.

I have no idea whether this person will get asylum, but I think we have an obligation to let him prove his case (or not) before we put him on a plane. it was definitely a test case. Trying to argue that they could’ve claimed asylum in France, rather than the recognised country of choice, was never going to win.
